The faces of disappointment on both Sean McDermott and Josh Allen have been a recurring sight in the NFL whenever the Buffalo Bills advance to the playoffs but fall one step short of making the leap to the Super Bowl. In fact, for the second time in five years, they were one game away from the big stage, only to be eliminated once again by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

It must be tough to fall in the AFC Championship Game, especially against the same team. But the Bills are determined to stop being the second- or third-best team and make a bold statement.

McDermott is in his ninth season leading the Bills and has been at the helm for some of the team’s most heartbreaking losses. Yet, he insists the team has returned revitalized despite the setbacks.
In the latest episode of the It’s Always Gameday in Buffalo podcast, McDermott shared a story about an encounter with a fan during a baseball game he attended, offering insight into how seriously he takes his role.
“A gentleman came up to me, he was sitting in the outfield about 30 yards away, and he said hey and introduced himself,” McDermott said.
“He said I appreciate you guys and what you’ve done with the team. I got to tell you, I was losing hope, I was losing my flavor for the Bills before you guys got there, and I thanked him for that.”
“He said, hey, I get this feeling that over the years, the Bills have been okay being number two. I was like, you don’t know me, and you don’t know this team. That is the furthest thing from who we are.”
McDermott has yet to win a Super Bowl, but he has always maintained an honest relationship with fans, offering, above all, his passion and loyalty to the team.
He also mentioned that he often imagines delivering a Super Bowl to the fans and telling them they’re finally number one. Let’s hope 2025 is the year when the franchise can finally claim its first Vince Lombardi Trophy.
