Ruben Amorim suggests he should leave Manchester United if he can’t change culture next season

Ruben Amorim has suggested Manchester United should appoint a new head coach if he is not capable of changing that “culture” at the club next season.

Amorim, who was appointed at Old Trafford in November, said United had to be “strong and brave” in the summer transfer window and insisted that if the situation did not improve next season then the club should seek a new approach.

“I don’t want to talk about players,” Amorim told his post-match press conference following Sunday’s two-goal defeat at home to West Ham United, that saw his side slip to 16th in the Premier League. “I’m talking about myself and the culture in the club.

“The culture in the team. I have that feeling: we need to change that. We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave. Because we will not have a next season like this.

“If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give space to different persons.”

United will play Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on May 21, which will see the winners play in next season’s Champions League, but Amorim questioned whether playing in Europe’s premier club competition would be a positive for the club.

“We are showing that in the end of this season that playing Premier League and Champions League for us is the moon,” he said.

“And so I’m not I’m not concerned about the final. They will be focused and I don’t know what is best. If it is playing in the Champions League or not.”

Amorim’s side return to action on May 16 away to Chelsea in the Premier League, five days before the Europa League final.

PGA Championship: Golf’s fourth major has been No. 1 as of late

There’s a not-so-secret, not-so-unspoken conventional wisdom that among the four majors, some are more major than others. The Open Championship has seniority and majesty, the U.S. Open has brawn and muscle, the Masters has tradition and elegance, and the PGA Championship has … a big ol’ trophy and a whole lot of one-time major winners. But conventional wisdom isn’t true wisdom, and the truth is that the PGA Championship, in the decade of the 2020s, has given golf banger after banger tournaments, delivering a reliable mix of storylines, drama and highlights, year after year.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementYes, the three best major tournaments of the first half of the decade are Rory McIlroy’s Masters win this year, Bryson DeChambeau’s U.S. Open win at Pinehurst last year and Cam Smith’s victory at the Open Championship in 2022.
