Should the New Orleans Saints sign Aaron Rodgers after Derek Carr’s shocking retirement?

With Derek Carr officially retiring after 11 NFL seasons, the New Orleans Saints are suddenly in quarterback chaos-and fans are asking the question on everyone’s mind: Is it time to bring in Aaron Rodgers?

Carr, plagued by a lingering shoulder injury, opted to walk away from the game rather than undergo surgery that would sideline him for the entire 2025 season. His exit leaves the Saints with a gaping hole at QB, no clear starter, and plenty of questions about the future of the franchise.

That’s where Rodgers comes in-at least in theory. The four-time MVP has been flirting with a 2025 return, and while the Steelers have long been considered favorites to land him, New Orleans might just throw its hat in the ring. But is that the right move?

Rodgers is a short-term solution, Shough is a toss-up

For some, signing Rodgers would provide instant credibility and raise the Saints’ floor, even if only for a year. But critics argue it’s a short-term fix for a team not built to contend, potentially sabotaging their long-term rebuild and 2026 draft position.

Then there’s Tyler Shough. The Saints just spent their No. 40 overall pick on the 26-year-old rookie, a seasoned college vet with 32 career starts across Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville.

Starting Shough now would let New Orleans evaluate their investment, and if he flops, the Saints could be perfectly positioned for a top QB in next year’s loaded draft class.

What other option do the Saints have?

As for other options? Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are both seen as long shots, relics of a previous regime with underwhelming résumés. A Kirk Cousins trade seems financially implausible, and free agents like Carson Wentz or Russell Wilson feel more like desperation than solutions.

Bottom line: New Orleans has to decide-do they chase a legendary name in Rodgers, or roll the dice on the future with Shough? One thing’s for sure: the post-Carr era in the Big Easy is already off to a dramatic start.

Payton Pritchard steps up for Celtics in Game 3 win vs. Knicks, and it goes far beyond his 3-point shooting

Imagn Images NEW YORK -- Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said Saturday that the days leading up to Game 3 of their first-round series against the New York Knicks were not difficult whatsoever. Yes, the Celtics were down 2-0 after blowing two 20-point leads at home, but "this is the fun part," Mazzulla said. "You don't get into the journey for it to be easy. It's been dark, but in a good way."In this situation, "you just gotta tap into your darkness, and that's it," Mazzulla said.Of course Mazzulla, who has shown the Celtics clips of hyenas and killer whales hunting their prey, would say that. To hear guard Payton Pritchard, though, Boston kept it simple after Game 2. Light, even."We watched areas where we could clean up a little bit, but it was really just being more confident and […]
