The NFL has announced two more games of the 2025 season schedule, and one involves the defending Super Bowl champions. The Philadelphia Eagles will head on the road to face the Washington Commanders in a rematch of the 2024 NFC Championship Game, while the Green Bay Packers will go to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears. Both games will be played on Fox.

The Eagles-Commanders game will be first followed by Packers-Bears as both games will take place on Saturday, Dec. 20 (times have not been announced). The NFL did play on a Saturday in Week 16 last year, with the game times scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET. Unlike last season when the games were on separate networks, both games will be played on Fox.

The Eagles-Commanders game is a rematch of the conference title matchup, when the Eagles blew past the Commanders en route to Super Bowl LIX. The Commanders reached their first NFC Championship Game since 1991. The Packers-Bears game continues the NFL’s oldest rivalry, dating back to 1921.

Christmas games set?

As the league has yet to announce the Christmas Day games on Netflix — it’s scheduled to be announced Wednesday — the four teams playing on Saturday in Week 16 appear primed to play on Christmas Day. The NFL created the Saturday Week 16 doubleheader last season to give the four teams playing on Christmas three days rest prior to their Christmas Day showdown.

Last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 while the Houston Texans played the Kansas City Chiefs. Christmas Day took place on a Wednesday, as the Week 17 slate kicked off with the Steelers hosting the Chiefs and the Ravens hosting the Texans (basically the teams played a semi-round robin).

While nothing is official, there is a very good chance the four teams playing Saturday are part of the holiday slate on Thursday, Dec. 25. Both the Eagles and Commanders have the Packers and Bears on their 2025 schedule, as the NFC East plays the NFC North.

The Eagles host the Bears in 2025 while the Commanders have to travel to face the Packers. Based on how the league aligned the Week 16 Saturday games with the Christmas games last season, each team (Chiefs, Texans, Ravens, Steelers) all played a home and road game in that stretch.

If we assume that’s how it will be again this year, then Philadelphia will welcome Chicago and Washington will head to Green Bay for a holiday doubleheader. These four teams would also have four days rest between the Saturday game and the Christmas Day game, unlike last season when it was three days rest.
