Catherine Dubois scored 15:33 into the fourth overtime Sunday to lift the host Montreal Victorie over the Ottawa Charge 3-2 in Laval, Quebec, Canada, ending the longest game in PWHL history and evening the teams’ semifinal series at one game apiece.
With the charge trying to clear the zone, Kristin O’Neill intercepted the puck just inside the blue line to keep the Victorie onside, then found Dubois in the left slot. Dubois’ wrister beat Charge goaltender Gwyneth Philips high to her glove side, ending the game 5 hours and 34 minutes after it began.
O’Neill opened the scoring with her first goal of the series at 2:25 of the first. Laura Stacey made it 2-0 Montreal in the second period before Ottawa scored twice in the final five minutes of regulation to tie it.
Aneta Tejralova scored at 15:26 of the third to put the Charge on the board, then Brianne Jenner — who had the only assist on Tejralova’s goal — beat Ann-Renee Desbiens with 42 seconds on the clock to tie it.
Desbiens finished the game with a league-record 63 saves. Phillips had 53, the third-most all time and the highest total for a rookie.
Game 3 of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Tuesday night in Ottawa.

NWSLPA demands policy change on game postponements after Angel City’s Savy King collapses
Imagn Images The NWSL Players Association has demanded that the league update its policy on game postponements in the wake of a medical event during Angel City's win over the Utah Royals on Friday, with defender Savy King later undergoing surgery to correct a heart abnormality."These moments demand humanity, sound judgment, and restraint," a statement from the players association read in part. "Any medical emergency that requires the administration of life-saving care should bring play to an end. The match should not have continued. Our members are elite, world-class competitors who have proven they can perform under unimaginable conditions. That does not mean they should have to."While the medical response demonstrated the highest level of competence and care, the decision to continue play demonstrated how player safety is weighed and operationalized in real time. Incidents of this severity must prioritize […]

How can the Capitals come back from a 3-1 deficit vs. Hurricanes? Start here
ARLINGTON, Va. — A few days ago, speaking before Game 4 of his team’s Stanley Cup playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals coach Spencer Carbery was asked about making lineup changes. At the time, Washington was down 2-1 but with less of a foothold than that suggested; winning a series when you have the puck as infrequently as the Capitals in the first three games is a tough hill to climb.AdvertisementSo, naturally, Carbery was open to mixing things up … with a caveat.“The tricky part of that is those guys have been together all year long, essentially,” Carbery said. “So (if) you’re tinkering with things this time of year, you have to be careful. You want to make adjustments, but you don’t want to go overboard to do something that the group is completely uncomfortable with and haven’t utilized […]
