So wütend haben wir Weltmeister-Trainer Gordon Herbert (66) beim FC Bayern Basketball noch nie erlebt!
Der Kanadier spricht normalerweise leise, wählt jedes Wort mit Bedacht und formuliert lieber einen Satz zu wenig als einen zu viel. Doch nach dem pomadigen Auftritt seiner Stars im letzten Hauptrunden-Spiel gegen die MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (73:72) platzte ihm der Kragen.

Nach einer indiskutablen Vorstellung hatten die Münchner zwar mit einem starken Schlussviertel noch den Sieg gerettet – und damit Hauptrunden-Platz eins in der Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga. Aber die Art und Weise passte Herbert überhaupt nicht.
„Leider war heute nur ein Team auf dem Feld, das in der ersten Halbzeit gekämpft hat“, beklagte er hinterher. Und wurde ganz deutlich: „Wir waren da absolut erbärmlich und peinlich. Wir haben Korbleger auf Korbleger abgeben, ohne Widerstand.“
Vor allem das Defensiv-Verhalten der Euroleague-Truppe war bedenklich. Gegen die zweit-schlechteste Angriffsformation der Liga ließen die Bayern in der ersten Hälfte 51 (!) Punkte zu! Herbert auf Zinne: „Es ist nicht das erste Spiel, das wir so begonnen haben. Aus irgendeinem Grund waren wir wieder nicht ready. Wir müssen verstehen, dass wir diese BBL-Spiele ernst zu nehmen haben.“

Das Pokal-Halbfinale hatte der Titelverteidiger im Februar in Weißenfels gegen den MBC verloren (93:95). Und auch als es in der Euroleague zählte, waren die Münchner nicht auf der Höhe, verloren das entscheidende Play-In-Spiel bei Real Madrid mit 71:93.
Herbert so richtig in Rage: „Wir spielen, als wäre das ein Freiplatz am Strand. Wir sind kein toughes Team, nicht physisch. Aber wenn unser Compete-Level null ist, sind wir weich. Wenn ich mir ein Eis kaufen würde, wäre das härter. Wir sind soft.“
MVP erneut orange!: Chemnitzer Urgestein holt BBL-Titel
Klar ist aber auch: Der Ausfall von Top-Scorer Carsen Edwards (27/Rücken) hat die komplette Statik des Bayern-Spiels durcheinandergebracht. Zudem suchen Säulen wie Valdimir Lucic (35), Shabazz Napier (33) oder Johannes Voigtmann (32) nach ihrer Top-Form.
Deswegen sah Herbert den Auftritt im BMW Park nicht nur negativ und verstand ihn als Weckruf: „Loben muss ich meine Jungs dafür, dass sie nie aufgegeben und wie sie in den letzten fünf Minuten gekämpft haben. Ich bin wirklich enttäuscht, aber tatsächlich wird diese Leistung uns helfen, um nach vorne zu kommen.“
Auf wen die Bayern ab Samstag in der Viertelfinal-Serie (Best-of-5) treffen, entscheidet sich diese Woche in der Play-In-Runde. Herbert: „Mir ist egal, wer am Donnerstag unser Gegner sein wird. Mich interessiert nur, ob wir verstehen werden, was es mental zum Sieg braucht.“
