No entanto, a felicidade deu lugar à decepção quando o espanhol perdeu um gol que poderia ter empatado a partida, aos 43 minutos do segundo tempo. O confronto terminou 4 a 3 para o Barcelona.
Mesmo cientes da inexperiência do jogador, a torcida não perdoou o chute para fora no confronto mano a mano com o goleiro Szczęsny e inundou de críticas a caixa de comentários do perfil do jogador no Instagram antes dele desativar.
Após a ocultação dos comentários, restou aos detratores usarem a publicação do perfil do Real Madrid anunciando a estreia do jogador, para criticá-lo.

Já, outro, pediu a presença do atacante brasileiro Rodrygo.

O espanhol desbancou o atacante brasileiro, um nome de mais prestígo no elenco, mas que está em baixa após atuações irregulares. Após a partida, o técnico do Real Madrid, Carlos Ancelotti, argumentou que não utilizou Rodrygo por ele não estar na forma adequada.
