Com isso, apostas já foram feitas para possíveis nomes no lugar do português e o compatriota de Amorim, José Mourinho, de 62 anos, se tornou o favorito dos apostadores para substituí-lo.
Mourinho , 62, foi técnico do United de maio de 2016 até dezembro de 2018. Ele venceu a Copa da Liga e a Liga Europa em 2017, mas saiu com conflitos com o elenco. A possível transferência é difícil. Atualmente o “Special One” trabalha no Fenerbahçe, na Turquia.

O segundo lugar na lista é o treinador Ipswich Town, Kieran McKenna, de 38 anos. O clube está na zona de rebaixamento, duas posições atrás do United. O irlandês foi auxiliar de Mourinho e de Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, durante a passagem dos treinadores no United e também atuou na base do clube.
E, em terceiro, o ex-técnico da seleção inglesa, Gareth Southgate, de 54 anos. Ele está sem clube desde que deixou o comando técnico da seleção após a final da Euro 2024.
Na sequência, o treinador dinamarquês Thomas Frank também ficou na lista. De acordo com o tablóide britânico The Sun, ele já havia sido cogitado para o cargo quando a diretoria buscava o sucessor de Erik Ten Hag e o trabalho dele no Brentford atraiu a atenção do United.
Outros nomes na disputa, em ordem de apostas são: Xavi (ex-Barcelona), Marco Silva (Fulham), Brendan Rodgers (Celtics), Mauricio Pochettino (seleção americana) e Unai Emery (Aston Villa). Por último, entra na lista Carlos Ancelotti, atual técnico do Real Madrid.
O italiano está em final de relação com o clube espanhol, no entanto, parece mais perto de assinar com a seleção brasileira.
Título no fim da temporada
Amorim entrou no clube em novembro, mas não conseguiu engatar grandes resultados. Mas, mesmo que a equipe esteja mais perto da zona de rebaixamento — mesmo que não tenha chances matemáticas de cair — do que de uma vaga para competições europeias, pelo torneio de pontos, o United ainda tem a chance de levar o título da Europa League ao final da temporada, contra o Tottenham Hotspur, no dia 21 de maio.
