If the past few days have been a distraction for Rafael Devers, he hasn’t shown it at the plate.
On Monday, the Boston Red Sox designated hitter was named American League Player of the Week after hitting .476 (10-for-21) with two homers and a double while driving in eight runs from May 5-11. Devers previously received the honor twice: on Aug. 19, 2019. and Sept. 18, 2023.

On Thursday, Devers made headlines when he revealed he was upset that the Red Sox asked him to move to first base following Triston Casas’ season-ending injury on May 2.
“I know I’m a ballplayer, but at the same time, they can’t expect me to play every single position out there,” he said.
“I’m not certain what (issue) he has with me,” Devers said of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, who played 12 years in the majors. “He played ball and I would like to think that he knows that changing positions like that isn’t easy.”
The comments prompted principal owner John Henry to fly to Kansas City on Friday to meet with Devers and manager Alex Cora for a “productive conversation” that Breslow described as an “honest, candid exchange.”
Devers has reached base safely in 15 straight games and is hitting .280 with an .888 OPS, seven homers and 12 doubles in 42 games this season. The Red Sox begin a three-game series in Detroit on Monday and will return home on Friday for a 10-game homestand.
