Vier Formel-E-Fahrer geben in einer neuen Doku-Serie (Amazon Prime) spannende Einblicke in ihr Leben. Mit dabei sind: António Félix da Costa von Porsche, Mitch Evans von Jaguar, Jake Dennis von Andretti und Dan Ticktum von Cupra Kiro. Für die Dokumentation „Driver“ wurden die Fahrer in der vergangenen Saison begleitet.
Der Brite Dan Ticktum (25) gilt seit Jahren als der „Bad Boy“ im Motorsport. Hintergrund: In seinen jungen Jahren wurde er für zwei Jahre gesperrt, nachdem er während der Safety-Car-Phase absichtlich in einen Rivalen gekracht war.
[–>Nach seiner Rückkehr startete er zunächst bei der Akademie von Red Bull – doch Red Bull beendete die Zusammenarbeit. Danach war Ticktum als Entwicklungsfahrer in der Fahrerakademie beim Williams Racing F1 unter Vertrag. Doch nach einer Reihe kontroverser Kommentare über einen der damaligen Fahrer, Nicholas Latifi, war auch dort für Ticktum Schluss.
Damit waren die Träume von der F1 geplatzt – seit der Saison 2020/21 startet der Rennfahrer in der Formel E. Er fährt für Cupra Kiro und belegt in der laufenden Saison Rang 18. Auch in der elektrischen Rennserie ist der Fahrer für seine unverblümte Art bekannt – und für seine heftigen Funksprüche.
Laut Ticktum verdankt er es Formel-E-CEO Jeff Dodds, dass er seine Persönlichkeit nun entfalten darf. „Vor allem seit Jeff dabei ist, ist die gesamte Meisterschaft dazu angetan, den Fahrern zu erlauben, sie selbst zu sein“, sagt Ticktum. „Er scheint das sehr zu unterstützen, genauso wie mein Team, also denke ich, dass es hilfreich war.“

Die Dreharbeiten für die Doku seien ziemlich intensiv gewesen, sagt Ticktum. „Aber ich habe es wirklich genossen. Mir gefällt, dass die Formel E und alle Leute bei Astronaut sehr daran interessiert waren, dass die Fahrer zeigen können, wer sie sind. Die Dreharbeiten haben großen Spaß gemacht, und ich konnte immer ich selbst sein. Ich hoffe, die Serie wird ein großer Erfolg, damit wir auch in den kommenden Jahren weiterdrehen können.“
