Barring a setback, Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen is expected to return for Tuesday night’s Game 4 against the visiting Winnipeg Jets, Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said.
Heiskanen hasn’t played since injuring his knee in a Jan. 28 collision with Vegas Golden Knights forward Mark Stone. Initially expected to miss three to four months, the 25-year-old blueliner had surgery on Feb. 4 and sat out the final 32 games of the regular season.
Heiskanen left Tuesday morning’s optional skate in Dallas without talking to reporters, but teammate Jake Oettinger said he was looking forward to him returning to the ice.
“He’s the best defenseman in the NHL in my opinion. Whenever you can insert a guy like that it’s obviously a huge boost,” the Stars goalie said, per TSN.
“He makes my life a lot easier. He does so many good things and so many little things that people don’t realize. I mean, he’s our best player. When you can get your best player back, it’s huge.”
Heiskanen has 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 50 games this season while logging 25:10 of ice time per game, which ranked best on the Stars and fifth among all NHL defensemen.
Since being selected by Dallas with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Heiskanen has recorded 283 points (58 goals, 225 assists) in 475 career games over seven seasons.
The Stars have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals going into Tuesday night’s matchup in Dallas. Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday in Winnipeg.

Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson drama is as avoidable as it is out of control: Dehner Jr.
CINCINNATI — As I walked across the intersection of Central Avenue and West Pete Rose Way outside Paycor Stadium, the day felt like a normal, boring OTA Tuesday in May.That is, until a man in a golf shirt and black hat driving a large SUV sitting at the red light called out my name and waved me over.AdvertisementIt was Trey Hendrickson. He wanted to talk.As I stood at his window in the intersection and a couple of cars came uncomfortably close to my backpack, we moved to a safer spot for Hendrickson to politely make clear his objective of surprisingly flying in for what turned into his media day in Cincinnati. No, this wasn’t the intersection of Central and Rose anymore. This was the intersection of surreal and absurd.Or, given the recent past of the Bengals, just another Tuesday in Cincinnati. This […]

Pete Rose’s reinstatement opens door to Hall — for Hit King and other excluded greats
So what does your schedule look like on August 6, 2028? Any chance you’ll be in the vicinity of lovely Cooperstown, N.Y.? You might want to stop by …For Pete Rose’s Hall of Fame induction day.Oh, all right. We’re getting ahead of ourselves here. There is no guarantee the Hit King will be inducted posthumously that day — or any day. But let’s think about what MLB commissioner Rob Manfred just did, when he effectively reinstated Rose on Tuesday, removing him and other deceased players from the ranks of men who have been “permanently” suspended from baseball.AdvertisementIsn’t he basically telling us: This man served his time? That’s what it feels like. And if that’s the message that begins to reverberate around baseball, the commissioner is going to discover he just did more than merely nudge open the door for a player […]

Potential Flyers upgrades, trades and offer sheets, and is Rick Tocchet a sensible choice?: Mailbag
Sorting through some Philadelphia Flyers mailbag questions while we await the announcement of their next head coach. (Some questions have been lightly edited for style and clarity.)The Flyers need a No. 1 center, No. 1 defenseman and No. 1 goalie. Which is most likely position that they can obtain in a trade or free-agent signing? — Warren B.I feel like I’ve seen this a few times and while I don’t necessarily disagree, I think it’s a bit too narrow to phrase it this way.AdvertisementYes, the Flyers need a No. 1 center. They know it, they’ve admitted it, they’re searching for it and they know it won’t be easy. But as far as procuring a No. 1 defenseman and No. 1 goalie, a certain amount of patience is necessary. In terms of the defense, it depends how you define what a No. 1 […]
