Po 85 sekundách hry překonal brankáře Hlavaje po spolupráci s kapitánem Bellemarem Tim Bozon, ale Francouzi se radovali předčasně, protože po trenérské výzvě Slovenska rozhodčí po zhlédnutí videa gól neuznali kvůli ofsajdu. Při Bellemareově vyloučení v polovině úvodní části pálil z přebrankového prostoru Honzek, Keller ale zasáhl. Ve 12. minutě se na druhé straně po Krištofově chybě ocitl sám před slovenským gólmanem Perret, ale obrovskou šanci otevřít skóre útočník Hradce Králové nevyužil.
Přesně v polovině utkání se to podařilo Slovensku. Chromiak se natlačil z levé strany před branku a po Honzekově zblokované střele sám vsedě dostal puk za Kellera. Vzápětí gólman švýcarského Lausanne tým podržel a při Čajkovičově úniku zasáhl lapačkou. Potom se Francouzi neprosadili při Čajkovičově vyloučení. Šanci zvýšit náskok měl po přihrávce Dvorského Honzek. V čase 34:34 se naopak radovali Francouzi. Bourdon vyrovnal střelou z hranice levého kruhu.
V úvodu třetí třetiny nepomohly Slovákům k opětovnému vedení ani dvě přesilové hry při trestech Texiera a Guebeye. V 50. minutě při Galletově vyloučení už se dočkali. Od modré čáry se přes stínícího Regendu trefil Rosandič.
Vzápětí mohl vyrovnat po Texierově střele z dorážky Boudon, ale Hlavaj zasáhl levým betonem. Vyrovnat se Francouzům nepodařilo ani při Regendově vyloučení. Těsný náskok udrželi Slováci i v závěrečné power play.
