Campeão da Fórmula 1 (F1) na temporada 1997, Jacques Villeneuve analisou que o atual grid da categoria tem um piloto diferenciado: Max Verstappen. Na visão do canadense, o tetracampeão mundial encontra soluções para melhorar o próprio desempenho, ao contrário da maioria dos rivais.
“Ele é um Cristiano Ronaldo. É um dos melhores. Faz a diferença na equipe. Há pilotos muito bons, mas poucos conseguem realmente fazer a diferença”, iniciou, em entrevista concedida ao Vision4Sport.
“A maioria dos pilotos, atualmente, senta no assento e apenas olha os dados. Esses dados dão a resposta antes mesmo de você fazer a pergunta, mas o importante é imaginar o que o veículo está fazendo e perguntar por que esse problema está acontecendo”, analisou.
Villeneuve também disse que o competidor da Red Bull não é somente diferenciado por razões técnicas, mas também comportamentais.
“Muitos motoristas dizem apenas: ‘A frente está derrapando. A traseira está instável’. Dizem que não conseguem dirigir, isso não ajuda. Pode haver um milhão de razões para esses problemas”, declarou o embaixador da Williams.
“Às vezes, você configura as coisas de tal forma que, mesmo que pareça mais lento no papel, você é mais rápido porque encontra uma maneira de pilotar melhor com isso. Max Verstappen é muito bom nisso”, reconheceu o ex-piloto de F1.
“Ele é muito focado, versátil, faminto e mentalmente muito forte. Quando está dirigindo, ele consegue visualizar o que está acontecendo mecanicamente. Isso é algo muito difícil de fazer no carro”, concluiu Villeneuve.
