Na konci první třetiny jsme dali dva góly a od té doby to byla pohoda. Bylo jasné, jakým směrem se zápas bude vyvíjet. Kluci utkání zvládli s úsměvy na rtech, což ve vypjatých duelech neuvidíme. Potvrdila se kvalita, která byla jednoznačně na naší straně, byť není vždy snadné ji na ledě potvrdit.
Je věčné téma, jestli mají podobné zápasy na mistrovství světa smysl. Se vším respektem k soupeři si totiž naši kluci šedesát minut hezky zatrénovali.
Mezi širší špičkou jsou týmy, které jednou za čas vystrčí nůžky a dokážou být nebezpečné. A pak jsou tu týmy jako Maďaři. Jednou za čas se objeví v elitní skupině, ale jinak bojují s týmy podobné kvality, zda mezi nejlepší vůbec postoupí. Proto ani z naší výhry nemůžeme dělat závěry.
Utkání s Maďarskem je pro mě atraktivní snad jen v jediném pohledu. Nikdy jsme s nimi nehráli, což může být zajímavější, než se osmnáctkrát za sezonu měřit se Švýcary, Finy nebo Švédy.
Přidám ještě jednu historku, kterou s maďarským hokejem mám. Asi nebude moc českých trenérů, kteří by s maďarskými týmy měli negativní bilanci. Já ji mám. Když jsem ještě trénoval tým Univerzity Karlovy, jeli jsme do Budapešti v rámci evropské univerzitní soutěže.
Moc se nás nesešlo a abychom mohli nastoupit alespoň v deseti hráčích, naskočil za nás kluk, co nám dělal PR a spravoval sociální sítě. Byl asi popáté na ledě a my v Budapešti prohráli 2:3. Takže mám na triku prohru s maďarským týmem. Nakonec jsme v soutěži i tak mířili ve finále k vavřínům, ale bohužel nás zastavil covid.
MS v hokeji 2025
88. ročník mistrovství světa v hokeji je na programu v termínu od 9. do 25. května 2025. Hostí jej Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně města Stockholm a Herning.

Během úspěšné kariéry přispěl české reprezentaci ke zlatu z MS 2001, získal extraligové tituly se Vsetínem v letech 1998 a 1999, slavil také se Spartou v letech 2000 a 2002. Ve sbírce má i dva tituly z finského Kärpätu Oulu. Po konci kariéry si stoupl na střídačku, aktuálně coby hlavní kouč vede Litvínov.
