K vítězství Denveru výrazně přispěl také rozehrávač Jamal Murray, který před zápasem nevěděl, zda kvůli nemoci nastoupí. Nakonec se rozhodl hrát a nastřádal 25 bodů, osm doskoků a sedm asistencí. Christian Braun pomohl vynutit sedmé utkání 23 body a 11 doskoky.
Hosté trefili pouze 11 trojek ze 40 pokusů, hráči Denveru jich proměnili 12 z 32. Na doskoku Denver vládl v poměru 52:40 a také udělal výrazně méně faulů (16:28).
Thunder vedli až o 12 bodů, ale zápas se lámal ve třetí čtvrtině, kterou domácí vyhráli 32:21. Během klíčové šňůry 10:0 trefil Julian Strawther dvě trojky, na které pak hosté těžko hledali odpověď. Denver měl k dobru až 16 bodů a v poslední čtvrtině už si výhru pohlídal.
Hosté kromě Gilgeous-Alexandera spoléhali na Cheta Holmgrena, který měl 19 bodů a 11 doskoků.
Denver čeká po bitvě s Los Angeles Clippers už druhý sedmý zápas v tomto play off. Thunder odehrají první sedmý duel od roku 2020, kdy v úvodním kole podlehli Houstonu.
„Je to buď, anebo. Je to zápas, pro který všichni žijeme a celý život tvrdě pracujeme. Buď náš sen bude pokračovat, nebo skončí,“ řekl Gilgeous-Alexander. Sedmý zápas se odehraje v neděli na palubovce Thunder.
„Právo hrát sedmý zápas doma si soupeř vybojoval. My jsme si vybojovali možnost ho vyzvat a pokusit se ho v jeho hale porazit,“ uvedl trenér Denveru David Adelman. Věří, že bude hrát i Aaron Gordon, který si poranil stehenní sval a není jasné, v jakém stavu pro klíčové utkání bude.
Vítěz bude soupeřem Minnesoty, která vyřadila Golden State 4:1 na zápasy a do finále Západní konference postoupila podruhé za sebou.
