Lugano ignora SPFC e crava melhor time do Brasil: “Hoje é”

Lugano define status do Flamengo

Lugano considera o Flamengo o time a ser batido no futebol brasileiro.

What did Bernardo Silva mean by the Manchester City ‘real ones’?

Bernardo Silva’s comments after Manchester City’s FA Cup final defeat on Saturday raised a few eyebrows and gave an insight into where things have gone wrong for them this season. It was another difficult weekend for City, beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace at Wembley, towards the end of a desperately disappointing campaign and before what will be a decisive summer.AdvertisementBernardo has been linked with a return to his boyhood club Benfica in the coming transfer window, but he spoke post-match like somebody who intends to stay at City and help put them back on top.Having already said things need to change at the club and then refusing to be drawn any further — leaving it for “the big bosses to decide” — he was asked whether a poor season like this can help focus minds and re-energise a team.“Yeah, you learn […]

Mets defensive lapses starting to add up: ‘We’re not finishing plays’

NEW YORK — With the infield drawn in, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso fielded the groundball cleanly near the edge of the grass. He set his feet, readied to make a throw toward home plate. But, as he’d explain later, he never got his fingers on top of the baseball properly and sailed it well wide with no chance whatsoever.AdvertisementWith one out in the eighth inning, speedy New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez got a good jump from third base, went on contact and scored easily for the lead.“From my view, a good throw would’ve had him,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. The Yankees added five more runs in the inning and beat the Mets 8-2 on Sunday night to take two out of three games in this season’s first Subway Series.“I messed it up,” Alonso said. “I just […]

Another West Ham defeat leaves fans with little optimism for next season: ‘It looks bleak’

Thousands descended on east London to participate in the Hackney Half Marathon, while just a stone’s throw away at the London Stadium, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga were running circles around West Ham United’s defence. The Nottingham Forest duo were shining lights as their club pushes for Champions League qualification. During the 2-1 victory, West Ham endeavoured to keep a semblance of defensive calmness, but it proved futile, with Gibbs-White and Elanga tormenting them.AdvertisementThe England international pounced on Alphonse Areola’s misplaced pass for the opener, while Elanga assisted ex-West Ham transfer target Nikola Milenkovic after the hour mark. West Ham scored via Jarrod Bowen, but their late spirited fightback failed to yield a draw.“Credit to Forest, they are a strong outfit with some fantastic players,” said head coach Graham Potter. “Their (opening) goal was disappointing from our perspective. Forest’s tribute to Awoniyi showed their unity under Nuno. It was clear in the performance, too

As the Nottingham Forest players gathered together in front of the away end to pay tribute to Taiwo Awoniyi — the one player who was missing for the visitors at the London Stadium on Sunday — it was hard to escape the impression that they had otherwise found themselves, with perfect timing. That they wanted to celebrate one of the most significant results of a remarkable season by showing the popular Nigerian he was in their thoughts as he recovers in hospital from abdominal surgery was a demonstration of the togetherness in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.AdvertisementBut what was every bit as encouraging as that emotional moment — as the squad held up a Forest shirt carrying Awoniyi’s name and his No 9 on the back of it — was the performance that came before it.Forest desperately needed this 2-1 win over […]

Chelsea’s domestic dominance still won’t be considered enough until Europe is conquered, too

In football, the determination to improve never ceases. Even after an FA Cup final victory. Even at the end of a season where you went unbeaten domestically and lifted two other trophies, compiling a record of played 30, won 27, drew three. That is the mentality of serial winners.“It feels great to dominate in England, but we didn’t win the Champions League,” rued Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor in her post-match news conference after their 3-0 win against holders Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday. “Our ambition is to compete against the best in Europe — against Barcelona and Lyon. Everyone is saying maybe Chelsea will run away from the pack in the league (Women’s Super League), but our goal is to compete against the best teams in Europe.”AdvertisementIt was a theme Bompastor returned to later on in that session […]
