Tani Oluwaseyi scored a skillful back-heel goal and added an assist and Dayne St. Clair made four saves as Minnesota United outclassed St. Louis City 3-0 on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minn.
Joaquin Pereyra also contributed a goal and an assist and Julian Gressel scored his first goal with his new team. The Loons (7-3-4, 25 points) won for the third time in four matches this month.
St. Clair locked up his MLS-leading seventh clean sheet of the season.
Roman Burki also finished with four saves for St. Louis City (2-7-5, 11 points). The visitors started this season 2-0-2 but have lost seven games with three ties since.
Both goalies made a pair of strong saves during the first 30 minutes, highlighted by Burki swatting away Nicolas Romero’s header from close range. Conrad Wallem had an open look for St. Louis and fired, but St. Clair dropped to the ground to get a hand in front of the shot.
Minnesota won a corner about 33 minutes in, and Romero headed the kick down to Oluwaseyi, whose back was to the goal. Oluwaseyi’s perfect left-footed back-heel sent the ball past Burki for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Pereyra doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. At the end of a quick passing sequence, Robin Lod touched it ahead to Oluwaseyi, who tapped it behind to Pereyra. The attacking midfielder one-timed a shot into the near side of the net, and a frustrated Burki could not react in time.
Gressel subbed in for the Loons in the 76th, and just two minutes later he was left unmarked down the right side. Pereyra reached him with a cross through the box, and Gressel hit a bouncer that went off Burki’s mitt and into the net.
