O capitão do pentacampeonato da seleção brasileira em 2002, Cafú, considera que o técnico Carlo Ancelotti “luta contra o tempo” para montar um novo elenco apto para a Copa do Mundo em 2026. Durante entrevista coletiva de pré-jogo da final da Kings League Brasil o ex-lateral criticou a demora para a definição do técnico e aponta que essa situação trará dificuldades para o italiano encontrar uma forma de jogar para a seleção.
— Ancelotti vai ter que escolher o time, montar o time, e dar um sequência para que esse time possa chegar na Copa do Mundo com uma ideia, uma identidade para a seleção brasileira e um time formado — disse o ex-jogador.
No entanto, Cafú argumenta que o treinador terá pouco tempo para seguir esse processo.
— O que eu vejo no Ancelotti é que ele está lutando contra o tempo com a seleção brasileira. Demoramos muito tempo para escolher o treinador da seleção e o escolhemos oficialmente a um ano da Copa do Mundo, e faltando apenas quatro jogos das eliminatórias, que é muito pouco para um treinador conhecer melhor o futebol brasileiro, conhecer melhor os jogadores que aqui no Brasil estão, conhecer melhor aquilo que ele quer para o time dele — diz o ex-jogador.
Perguntado a respeito de uma possível queda de convocações de jogadores que atuam no Brasil por parte do Ancelotti, Cafú argumentou que o italiano irá se comunicar com pessoas que possam agregar nessa parte e ressaltou que o verdadeiro problema é o tempo.
— Nomes eu gosto bastante, mas prefiro não citar esses nomes. Mas eu acho que os jogadores que jogam no Brasil não iriam ficar fora de uma lista do professor Ancelotti, sabendo da qualidade desses jogadores que vem se destacando aqui no futebol brasileiro. Até porque o Ancelotti vai ter olhos aqui no Brasil, então vão ter pessoas que ele vai perguntar, vai pedir conselho pra saber em relação a esses atletas que estão aqui no Brasil que ele de repente possa ter interesse em convocar pra seleção brasileira. Eu não vejo problema em relação a isso. Bato na tecla que o problema nosso não é nem o treinador, é o tempo. Nós não temos tempo suficiente pra que possa entrosar um time já pra uma Copa do Mundo que estamos daqui a um ano já, preste a estrear. — diz Cafú.

A primeira pré-convocação de Carlo Ancelotti pela seleção brasileira conta com seis jogadores do Flamengo (Danilo, Wesley, Léo Ortiz, Alex Sandro, Gerson e Pedro), além de Neymar, do Santos, que se recupera de lesão na coxa esquerda. Ex-zagueiro do rubro-negro e hoje no Cruzeiro, Fabrício Bruno e o meia Oscar, do São Paulo, também estão na pré-lista.
A CBF comunicou, no último sábado, os clubes envolvidos sobre a liberação dos jogadores. O próprio técnico italiano divulgará a lista final com 23 nomes no dia 26 de maio, no Rio de Janeiro. A informação é do GE.
