Hned na začátku druhé třetiny ještě za stavu 0:0 americký sudí pozoroval u mantinelu hostující rozehrávku, kterou napadal Mitch Marner. Bek Mikkola odehrál před dotírajícím torontským útočníkem puk, jenže hokejkou přitom švihnul Rooneyho do obličeje. Rozhodčí v bolestech padl k ledu. Z opakovaných záběrů se zdálo, že čepel zasáhla nešťastníka přímo do oka.
NHL však následně vydala zprávu, že Rooneymu lékaři zašili několika stehy tržnou ránu nad okem a k poškození zraku nemělo dojít. Hra byla asi na pět minut přerušena, aby se do hry mohl zapojit náhradní rozhodčí Garrett Rank.
Na nečekanou přestávku mnohem lépe zareagovali zkušení obhájci Stanley Cupu z Floridy. Během necelých sedmi minut odskočili do třígólového trháku a nakonec slavili postupovou výhru 6:1. Ve finále Východní konference se tak Panthers utkají s Carolinou. Začíná se na ledě Hurricanes hned v noci na středu.

Professional Women’s Hockey League players will soon be on the move, as the league announced its first-ever expansion draft — for new franchises in Seattle and Vancouver — will be held on June 9.Each of the PWHL’s six existing teams will lose four players total from their 2024-25 roster, between a pre-expansion draft signing window and the expansion draft.According to the league’s press release, the expansion draft will follow these rules: Teams will submit a list of up to three players who are protected from selection during an exclusive signing window and the expansion draft.
