Großes Final-Debüt im ZDF!

Beim DFB-Pokal-Endspiel zwischen dem VfB Stuttgart und Arminia Bielefeld wird eine neue Stimme beim Zweiten zu hören sein: Gari Paubandt (35) kommentiert die Partie ab 20 Uhr.

SPORT BILD: Herr Paubandt, Sie kommentieren Samstag Ihr erstes großes Finale für das ZDF. Wie erfuhren Sie, dass Sie nominiert sind?

Gari Paubandt (35): Ich habe es ganz normal in der Besetzungsliste gesehen. Es war eine echte Überraschung. Ich habe mir erst mal im Kalender ein paar Tage für die Vorbereitung geblockt. Das Finale ist für mich eine gigantische Nummer.

Sie sind gebürtiger Berliner. Wie oft waren Sie schon beim Pokalfinale vor Ort?

Bisher noch nie. Ich habe es bisher nur vor dem Fernseher verfolgt. Es ist halt jedes Mal extrem teuer. Im Olympiastadion kommentierte ich aber die Eröffnungsfeier der Special Olympics. Es ist ein besonderer Ort. Ich freue mich besonders auf die Siegerehrung in dieser großen Schüssel.

Obwohl ich in Köpenick geboren bin, stehe ich den Berliner Klubs komplett neutral gegenüber. Ich halte zum HSV, weil ich dort seit Langem lebe.

Wie oft haben Sie die Finalteams live gesehen?

Stuttgart habe ich zuletzt beim 4:4 bei Union für das Sportstudio kommentiert – das hat mich noch mehr heiß auf das Finale gemacht. Außerdem war ich bei Bielefeld gegen Dresden, wo die Arminia-Fans stimmungstechnisch schon unfassbar aufgedreht haben. Die Dramaturgie von Erst- gegen Drittligist an sich ist mega.

Haben Sie ein Kommentatoren-Vorbild?

Ein Vorbild nicht. Das liegt daran, dass ich nie gedacht hätte, mal Kommentator zu werden. Ich habe es immer nur als eines von mehreren Tätigkeitsfeldern gesehen – neben Beitragsmacher und anderen. Dann gewann ich 2014 ein Kommentatoren-Casting bei Sky und blieb dabei. Damals wollte ich es eigentlich nur mal ausprobieren, weil ich nicht wusste, ob meine Stimme geeignet ist oder wie ich rüberkomme.

Was mussten Sie beim Casting kommentieren?

Es gab einen Workshop mit Wolff Fuss, und da war es das Pokalfinale 2014, in dem Arjen Robben das 1:0 für Bayern in der Verlängerung schoss.

Welchen Kollegen hören Sie gern zu?

Ich mag sehr, wie Martin Groß kommentiert. Natürlich kann man sich auch von Wolff Fuss etwas abgucken. Ich finde Oliver Schmidt herausragend, der alles punktgenau formuliert. Die Qualität hätte ich auch gerne. Am Ende geht es eher darum, dass ich links und rechts mal zuhöre, wie die anderen bestimmte Situationen im Kommentar gelöst haben und wie ich es dann auf meine Art einsetzen könnte.

Wo holen Sie sich Feedback?

Ich habe einen überschaubaren Pool von Kollegen und Freunden, die auch richtig hart mit mir sein dürfen. Wenn da etwas Mist war, will ich das auch wissen. Dann ziehe ich daraus meine Lehren. Selbst höre ich mir meine Kommentare nicht gern noch mal komplett an – eher nur strittige Szenen und Tore in der Nachbetrachtung, um zu überprüfen, ob es gepasst hat. Aber ich muss aufpassen, nicht zu negativ zu sein und mich selber in Grund und Boden zu reden.

Wie groß ist die Angst, beim Finale zu verkrampfen und dann auf Sicherheit zu altbacken in Floskeln zu sprechen?

Ich finde den Druck einer solchen Aufgabe eher geil, weil man sich das erst verdienen muss. Gefühlt hatte ich diese Verkrampfung noch nie. Vorher macht man sich natürlich viele Gedanken und bereitet sich bestmöglich vor. Aber der Reiz eines Endspiels ist immer, dass Dinge kommen, auf die du dich nicht vorbereiten kannst. Dann prasselt von links und rechts eine unglaubliche Geräuschkulisse auf dich ein. Da geht es für mich darum, das zu genießen und dieses Gefühl rüberzubringen.
