Rhyne Howard sank two foul shots with 9.7 seconds remaining, lifting the Atlanta Dream to a 91-90 win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday in Indianapolis.

The Fever scored the game’s first basket, then never led again until Aliyah Boston made one of two free throws with 21.7 seconds left for a 90-89 advantage. The Dream were up by 11 entering the fourth quarter.

After Boston’s foul shots, Rhyne Howard drove into the lane and was fouled by Kelsey Mitchell. Following Rhyne Howard’s two successful free throws, Indiana’s Natasha Howard had a shot blocked by Nia Coffey. Natasha Howard got once more chance but missed a 12-foot attempt.

Atlanta (1-1) appeared to take control in the third period after Indiana (1-1) cut a 10-point second-period deficit to 44-42 entering halftime.

Rhyne Howard opened the third with a trio of 3-point buckets, stretching the edge to 53-42 within the first minute and a half.

Rhyne Howard finished with 20 points, sinking all six free throws to offset a 5-for-17 shooting night. Britney Griner was the top scorer for the Dream, tallying 21 points and eight rebounds before fouling out in the final minute.

Atlanta’s Brionna Jones added 19 points and 13 rebounds. Allisha Gray scored 16 points and dished out six assists.

Indiana was paced by Caitlin Clark, who scored 27 points, hitting 5 of 11 from 3-point range, and handed out 11 assists. Boston added 24 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana, with Mitchell tallying 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

The Fever shot 48.5 percent overall (33 of 68) and made 8 of 17 3-point tries but committed 14 turnovers and shot just 16 of 26 (61.5 percent) from the foul line.

Atlanta hit 42.6 percent from the floor (29 of 68) and 8 of 30 from 3-point range (26.7 percent) while giving the ball away 11 times.

The Fever and Dream will face off again on Thursday, this time in Atlanta.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza throws his support behind Juan Soto amid criticism: ‘He’s 26, man’

Getty Images New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza defended outfielder Juan Soto on Tuesday, a day after saying he would meet with the star over his perceived lack of hustle. "He's human. He's 26, man," Mendoza told reporters before a loss to the Boston Red Sox. "He's going to be fine. He's Juan Soto."Soto, who signed the richest contract in Major League Baseball history over the offseason, has been subject to criticism about his effort level, as well as his offensive output. Following a 1 for 3 showing on Tuesday, he's now hitting .247/.379/.437 (134 OPS+) with eight home runs and more walks than strikeouts. Most players would happily take those marks, but Soto's compensation and history (this would represent a career-worst season) make him an exception. 3 best NBA player props, Knicks vs. Pacers odds for Game 1: Use Siakam, Towns in 2025 NBA Playoff picks

Imagn Images Very few professional athletes will admit they listen to the outside chatter about them, especially during the NBA playoffs, but the last time Karl-Anthony Towns took the court, he played like someone ready to silence any critics. Giannis Antetokounmpo trade: What should Bucks look for if they move one of NBA’s elite players?

Getty Images When a superstar gets traded, there's usually a template for the return package. A significant amount of draft picks are usually involved. Hopefully a promising young player is the centerpiece. Older players are usually in the mix as well, if only for salary-matching purposes. The hope, generally, is that the assets gained in such a trade can facilitate a reasonably quick turnaround and that the team giving up the player in question can start winning again within a few years. But as the reality of a possible Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sets in, the Milwaukee Bucks face a far grimmer future than most teams giving away All-NBA players. They don't have a particularly easy path to a quick rebuild. They don't control their own first-round pick again until 2031, so they gain nothing by being bad. They don't have a […]
