Riley Greene went 3-for-4 with a homer, the decisive double in the ninth inning and four RBIs, powering the visiting Detroit Tigers past the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Tuesday.

Kerry Carpenter also homered for the Tigers, who won for the sixth time in their last eight games and leveled the three-game series at one victory apiece.

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal allowed three runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.

Reliever Will Vest (4-0) pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Tommy Kahnle tossed a shutout ninth for his sixth save.

Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who took just their third loss in 16 games.

Cardinals starter Erick Fedde allowed four runs on five hits in five innings. He fanned two without issuing a walk. Steven Matz threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, but Kyle Leahy (1-1) allowed the winning run in the ninth.

Detroit squandered a 4-0 lead but rallied in the ninth when Zach McKinstry hit a leadoff single and scored on Greene’s double.

The Tigers jumped on Fedde in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Carpenter led off the game with his homer into the right field seats. McKinstry hit a one-out double and scored on Greene’s single.

Detroit doubled its lead to 4-0 in the third inning. Gleyber Torres hit a one-out single, and Greene went deep two batters later.

The Cardinals cut their deficit in half in the fifth inning. Ivan Herrera hit a soft fly ball that fell into right field when Carpenter lost it in the lights. Arenado exploited that break with his two-run homer.

St. Louis cut the margin to 4-3 the sixth inning. Maysn Winn hit an infield single, moved up on a balk, took third on a groundout and scored on Herrera’s single into right field.

The Cardinals tied the game 4-4 in the seventh inning. Victor Scott II hit a leadoff double, took third on a groundout and scored on Winn’s sacrifice fly.

Tennessee Titans: No. 1 pick Cam Ward signs fully-guaranteed rookie contract

<!--> Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans made it official on Wednesday. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft signed his rookie contract — a fully guaranteed, four-year deal worth $48 million, per multiple reports. This was all but a given when the Titans used the top pick on the quarterback, who played at the University of Miami in 2024. Now, Ward will head into Organized Team Activities, which are set to start May 27, with a deal that makes him the highest-paid rookie in the NFL. Ward enters a quarterback room in Tennessee that includes Will Levis, Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. Raiders OTAs: Ashton Jeanty’s unique stance, Christian Wilkins’ health and more

HENDERSON, Nev. — During his final season at Boise State, running back Ashton Jeanty went viral for his unique backfield stance. Instead of standing hunched over with his hands on his thighs like most running backs, he would stand up straight before the snap.It served a purpose. Jeanty, who’s only 5-foot-8, said it allowed him to get a better view of the defensive alignment. In OTAs with the Las Vegas Raiders, however, Jeanty has pivoted to using a more prototypical stance. It came at the suggestion of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who believes it gives him a stronger base to explode out of once the ball is snapped. @nfl backfield stance is so tuff 😤 #ashtonjeanty #boisestate #broncos #nfl #nflcombine #nfldraft ♬ original sound – NFL “He won for now,” Jeanty said last week in an interview with NFL Network’s […]
