Fanoušci z Ostrovů mají pověst bouřliváků, kteří se rádi napijí a pak tropí neplechu. Stačí si vzpomenout na příznivce West Hamu, kteří řádili v Praze před i po finále Konferenční ligy v roce 2023. Podobné scénky se nyní objevily i ve španělském Bilbau, které ve středu večer od 21 hodin hostí finále Evropské ligy mezi Rudými ďábly a londýnským Tottenhamem.
Na sever Španělska se podle tamní policie vydalo až 70 tisíc příznivců obou klubů, a to i přesto, že oběma týmům bylo celkem přiděleno 28 tisíc vstupenek. V Bilbau, kde se nachází stadion San Mamés, bylo ubytování již dlouho dopředu vyprodané, a tak se řada fanoušků ubytovala v nedalekém San Sebastianu.
Právě zde došlo ke střetu obou fanouškovských táborů. Konkrétně v ulici Fermína Calbetóna. Již připití Angličané se do sebe nejdříve pustili slovně, vzápětí se ale spor stupňoval a došlo i na fyzickou konfrontaci. Vzduchem létaly stoly, židle, koše a láhve. Celou situaci musela uklidnit až policie. Podle španělských médií však nedošlo k žádným zatčením, na místo se dostavili také zdravotníci, kteří ošetřovali zraněné.
Jak Manchester United, tak Tottenham mají poslední možnost jak napravit tristní ročník. Oba kluby se v anglické lize nachází na příčkách, které jsou pro ně ostudné. A je trochu symbolické, že jsou v tabulce Premier League sousedy. Tým ze severu Anglie je na šestnácté příčce, zatímco Londýňané jsou ještě o příčku níže, tedy na první nesestupové pozici. Vítěz středečního finále získá vstupenku do příštího ročníku Ligy mistrů, čímž si alespoň částečně může udobřit rozlícené fanoušky.
