Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca fears some of his players might be injured or struggling with fatigue at the start of next season because of their heavy fixture schedule.
Maresca’s side play their final Premier League game at Nottingham Forest on Sunday before facing Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League Final three days later.

Many of the squad will then go away on international duty before reporting back to Chelsea for the FIFA Club World Cup, which is taking place in the USA from June 14 to July 13.
Rules dictate that Chelsea have to give the players some holiday time, but they will need to do some kind of preparation before the Premier League restarts again on August 16.
When asked by The Athletic if he is worried this could all have an impact on the next campaign, he replied: “For sure there is a chance we have players who because of the amount of games they can get injured or be tired. Then we see how we need to be.
“Is it an added challenge for the players to think they have to play so many games? For me, it’s not normal and it is not correct. I can understand people thinking ‘yeah but they earn (so) much money, that it’s not a problem’ but it’s about health, protecting players.”
Five players – Reece James, Cole Palmer, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Noni Madueke – have been called up by England alone for their upcoming games against Andorra and Senegal.
Pressed on whether the club had asked international teams to leave Chelsea players out in view of the added strain caused by their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, Maresca said: “No, from my point of view. I didn’t speak with any of them (international coaches).
“How can I manage it going forward? Nothing. If they (the players) are going to be tired, they are not going to play. How can you manage that? It’s as simple as that. I don’t think there is much attention on players’ health and these kinds of things.
“But as I have said many times, we are happy players are in their national teams, it is important for the players because they represent the country, it is nice, and for the club also.”
Chelsea expect to have Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu available for the match at the City Ground on Sunday following injury, but they are likely to be only on the bench, having only just returned to full fitness.
