Ještě na podzim, kdy oblékal dres Arisu, si Darida návrat do Česka nechával otevřený. „Mám v hlavě několik variant, spoustu plusů i minusů. Jestli zůstat v Arisu i příští sezonu, jestli tady skončit kariéru, nebo si ještě zahrát v Česku. Nechci si zavřít žádnou z možností,“ řekl v rozhovoru pro Sport.cz.
Jeho smlouva v Arisu vyprší v létě, klub mu sice nabídl její prodloužení, ale Darida se rozhodl pro návrat domů. Proč právě Hradec Králové, a ne třeba Plzeň, kde svou velkou kariéru nastartoval?
Na východě Čech si nechal postavit dům a plánuje se tam usadit s rodinou. Výběr nového působiště tedy měl pro třiatřicetiletého středopolaře i osobní rozměr. Zároveň Votroci nezastírají velké ambice do příštích sezon, postavili nový stadion a očekávají přechod do rukou nového majitele včele s Ivo Ulichem či Pavlem Nedvědem.
Pro Hradec jde o mimořádně cenný úlovek. Darida odešel do zahraničí už před dvanácti lety, kdy z Viktorie Plzeň zamířil do Freiburgu. Následně dlouhá léta působil v berlínské Hertě, kde zanechal výraznou stopu v bundeslize. Po konci v Německu si vyzkoušel i angažmá v Arisu Soluň, kde se potkal s dalšími Čechy – Jakubem Brabcem a Martinem Frýdkem.
V dresu řeckého klubu odehrál 98 soutěžních zápasů, v nichž vstřelil 11 branek a přidal 8 asistencí.
Dlouhá léta také byl oporou české reprezentace, kde i dva roky dělal kapitána. Zahrál si na třech evropských šampionátech. V dresu Česka odehrál více než 70 zápasů a vstřelil osm branek.
V hradeckém kádru se potká i se svým kamarádem a bývalým spoluhráčem Václavem Pilařem, který už na východě Čech působí dvě sezony.
