Novak Djokovic won the 100th singles title of his career by beating Hubert Hurkacz in three sets at the Geneva Open in Switzerland. Djokovic lost the opening set on a double fault, but recovered against an opponent who had never beaten him to set yet another tennis record with a 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(2)

He becomes only the third man in the Open Era to win 100 titles, after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
Having climbed back from a set down, Djokovic was broken in the first game of the deciding set, in part thanks to a bad bounce at 40-40. Hurkacz got to 4-3 before playing two poor points to go down 0-30, missing a routine forehand into open court and hitting a double fault. Djokovic capitalized and there were no more breaks from there, taking the match into a deciding tiebreak.
Hurkacz stayed with Djokovic until 3-2 down, missing three more forehands to give Djokovic match points. He needed just won, hitting an ace before walking to the center of the court in celebration as he has done 99 times before, any emotion at the milestone barely visible.
“I was just trying to hang in there… I don’t know how he broke his serve, he probably broke himself when he was 4-3 up. But this is what happens at this level, the highest level,” Djokovic said on court.
Both players looked by turns unhappy and bemused by the court conditions, laughing at strange bounces and several instances in which they couldn’t keep their footing. Djokovic’s attention now turns to the French Open, where he is seeking to win a record-setting 25th Grand Slam title. He will face stiffer competition than Hurkacz there, who crumbled at the most important moments of the match. His record against Djokovic goes to 0-8, with five tiebreaks lost in those matches.
