Katy Knoll knocked in a rebound at 9:57 of the third overtime, lifting Minnesota to a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Charge on Saturday in Saint Paul, Minn., and moving the Frost one win away from a second consecutive PWHL championship.
Minnesota leads the best-of-five finals 2-1 heading into Game 4 on Monday in Saint Paul. Every game in the championship series has gone into overtime.
Klara Hymlarova fired a shot in the third OT, and Gwyneth Philips made the stop. The puck bounced out front to Knoll, who delivered her second goal of the postseason.
The winning tally came just over a minute after the Frost killed off a cross-checking penalty called on Claire Thompson.
Minnesota failed to take advantage of a power play in the second overtime, when Rebecca Leslie was off for hooking.
Ottawa’s Emily Clark opened the scoring at 11:38 of the first period when she drove in a short shot from the right side following a scramble in front of the net.
Minnesota’s Lee Stecklein drove in a wrist shot from just inside the blue line to level at 2:58 of the second period.
Frost goalie Maddie Rooney made 35 saves. Philips stopped 45 shots.

Brad Marchand’s mid-game DQ Blizzard, Matthew Tkachuk’s revenge and more Hurricanes-Panthers notes
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — We’re going to take this off-day opportunity to be the bearers of bad news about a situation that, conservatively, is one of the five most interesting things to take place in the NHL’s Eastern Conference final this year.It is highly unlikely that Florida Panthers winger Brad Marchand was actually eating a Dairy Queen Blizzard during the second intermission of his team’s 6-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 on Saturday.AdvertisementAfter the game, Marchand was talking to Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas about Florida’s off-day trip in Raleigh, N.C., to, yes, Dairy Queen. At the end of the interview, Sportsnet cut to a split-screen of Marchand eating something with a spoon in the locker room ahead of the third period.Neither what he is eating nor the vessel he is eating it from is visible. It seemed to […]

Red Sox roster takeaways: Team mixing and matching with rookie-heavy lineup
BOSTON — After a long few days at the ballpark this weekend, the Boston Red Sox had optional infield work prior to Sunday’s game. In a nearly empty ballpark two hours before first pitch, two players took grounders with infield coach José Flores: Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell. Neither player was set up as his natural position. Flores hit ground balls to Mayer at third base as Mayer fired across the diamond to Campbell at first base.AdvertisementSuch is the team’s current reality, as they look to make all the different parts fit together while missing two of their top infielders, Alex Bregman and Triston Casas.During the drills, Mayer, who’d played just six professional games at third base in Double A and Triple A before his big-league debut at the hot corner on Saturday, short-hopped a throw to Campbell, who’s yet […]
