Seit über einem Jahr lagen Red Bulls Teamchef Christian Horner und Jos Verstappen, Vater von RB-Weltmeister Max, im Clinch. Immer wieder kam es zu öffentlichen Auseinandersetzungen, nachdem der Brause-Rennstall nicht nur seine Vormachtstellung in der Formel 1 verlor, sondern Horner mit einem Sex-Skandal (Vorwurf des anzüglichen Verhaltens gegenüber einer Mitarbeiterin) verwickelt war.
Jetzt die Wende! Das eigentlich zerschnittene Tischtuch zwischen den beiden Alphatieren scheint geflickt – zumindest vorerst. Verstappen Sr. im Interview mit der holländischen Zeitung „De Telegraaf“: „Christian ist der Teamchef und der Boss von Max. Es muss gegenseitiger Respekt herrschen, und das ist der Fall. Es ist wichtig, dass es ein gutes Verhältnis zwischen allen Parteien gibt.“

Der Ex-Formel-1-Pilot (fuhr mit Unterbrechungen von 1994 bis 2003 u. a. für Benetton) weiter: „Es ist zwar viel passiert, aber das spielt keine Rolle mehr. Aber: Verstappen möchte sich in Zukunft zurücknehmen, ließ zuletzt bereits mehrere Grand Prix aus. Sonst ist er ein regelmäßiger Gast an der Rennstrecke. Verstappen Sr.: „Ich möchte nicht der Vater sein, der sich ständig einmischt. Ich habe über die Jahre gelernt, dass ich Dinge auch einfach mal geschehen lassen muss. Max und ich sind jeden Tag im Kontakt, aber er hat sein eigenes Leben.“
[–>Bleibt abzuwarten, wie lange die Harmonie hält. Aktuell gibt es wenig Grund zur Sorge. Max Verstappen konnte vergangene Woche in Imola (Italien) seinen zweiten Saisonsieg einfahren, ist als Dritter in der Fahrer-WM noch voll im Titelrennen.
Horner und Jos Verstappen wollen beide den maximalen Erfolg für ihren Schützling. Und sie wissen jeweils, dass sie dafür so lange wie möglich Frieden schließen müssen.
