Meghan Markle has admitted to experiencing conflicting emotions about wealth, revealing a deep-seated sense of guilt despite the Duchess of Sussex’s significant financial success through her connections.
Markle‘s remarks come as she continues to build a business empire alongside husband Prince Harry, who lives with her at a $14 million estate in Montecito, California.

The pair reportedly have a combined net worth of approximately $60 million, along with more than $10 million inherited from Queen Elizabeth II upon her death in September 2022.
Yet despite this, the 43-year-old Duchess admitted facing challenges with just how affluent she is, when other people are struggling in the modern socioeconomic climate of the United States.

“There’s lots of guilt mentality surrounding having a lot,” Markle said on her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast. “And at the same time, there’s a scarcity mindset.
“It’s easy to attach to [the idea] of, like, ‘I’ll never have enough.'”

Despite their substantial fortune, Markle and Harry have faced criticism for their spending habits – or lack thereof as some insiders have suggested the pair prefer to use the resources of their wealthy social circle.
“It’s always other people’s money,” a source told PageSix.com in 2024, implying the couple are hesitant to dip into their own funds.
Nonetheless, Markle has shown no signs of slowing down in her business ventures, notably through her lifestyle brand As Ever as “incredibly lonely” but ultimately “liberating.
And she also revealed that her collaboration with Netflix marked a critical shift in her career, calling the partnership a “U-turn moment” as she launched the brand’s debut product line in April.
Markle kicks off her new podcast
Markle also recently returned to the podcast space following the termination of her $20 million Spotify deal, which ended in 2023 after only 12 episodes of her Archetypes podcast.
Now partnered with Lemonada Media, Markle is attempting a fresh start with Confessions of a Female Founder, a show that aims to highlight the journeys of successful women entrepreneurs.
“I’ve been having candid conversations with amazing women who have turned dreams into realities,” Markle wrote on Instagram. “And scaled small ideas into massively successful businesses.
“They’re opening up, sharing their tips, tricks (and tumbles), and letting me pick their brains as I build out my own business, As Ever.”
The new podcast began airing on April 8, with Markle expressing enthusiasm for this new chapter so despite her internal financial conflict, she’s keen to make sure her bank account is only trending in one direction: up.
Whether he latest quests work remains to be seen, but the Duchess appears intent on finding both purpose and peace in her pursuit of success.
