La importancia del jugador español en la Liga Endesa sigue a la baja. Queda demostrado una vez más en los mejores quintetos de la competición. Por segunda temporada seguida, no hay jugadores nacionales ni en el primero ni en el segundo. El último que se hizo hueco en ellos fue Joel Parra, en el curso 2022-23, el último que pasó en el Joventut.
La alarmante tendencia viene ya de lejos. En las últimas 10 campañas, desde que se eligen el mejor quinteto y el segundo, de los 100 jugadores elegidos, sólo ocho eran nacidos en España: el mencionado caso de Parra, Xavi López-Aróstegui (en el primero en 2021), Alberto Abalde (en el segundo en 2020), Javi Beirán y Jaime Fernández (en el segundo en 2019), Sergio Llull (en el primero en 2017) y Sergio Rodríguez y Álex Mumbrú (en el primero en 2016). Para encontrar un MVP nacional hay que remontarse hasta 2017, cuando el galardón se lo llevó Llull.

Entrar en los mejores quintetos es muy complicado debido a la dura competencia existente, pero la dificultad se multiplica si el peso en el equipo es reducido. Es lo que sucede con los jugadores nacionales. A falta de la última jornada de la Liga Endesa, después de la que las estadísticas prácticamente no cambiarán, sólo hay dos españoles entre los 50 jugadores que más minutos han promediado: Santi Yusta, en el puesto 19, y Oriol Paulí, en el 37. Son los únicos que alcanzan una media de 23 minutos en pista.
Una misión imposible
En puntos, vuelven a ser dos los jugadores nacionales que aparecen entre los 50 primeros y por los pelos: de nuevo Yusta (46º) y Fran Guerra (47º). Y en valoración son tres: Guerra (29º), Joel Parra (39º) y Willy Hernangómez (41º). Hacerse hueco entre los mejores con semejante protagonismo es una misión imposible.

Después de tanto tiempo, hay la confianza suficiente para considerar a Marcelinho Huertas, MVP de la Liga Endesa a sus 42 añazos, a Ante Tomic (38) y a Gio Shermadini (36) como de los nuestros. Al menos ellos son de los extranjeros que echaron raíces en un equipo. Es un consuelo viendo la representación española en los quintetos ideales de la competición.
