The winner of the first major of the year is always going to be hotly-tipped for the remainder of the season and world No. 7 Madison Keys will be hungry for another title.

She is in action today after a first round win win over Daria Saville and will take on Great Britain’s Katie Boulter.

After picking up her first major at the Australian Open, 30-year-old Keys made amends for runs deep into past majors where she fell agonisingly short.

She has nine WTA Tour singles titles to her name, the latest of which came in Adelaide before the Australian Open. Keys did not have an ideal warm-up on clay after exiting the Italian Open in the round of 32 but she will be one to watch.

As feared, Braves’ AJ Smith-Shawver diagnosed with torn UCL

ATLANTA — Hard-throwing Atlanta Braves rookie AJ Smith-Shawver has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, as the team feared when he left Thursday’s game at Philadelphia after feeling what he said was a pop in the elbow. An MRI revealed the torn UCL and Smith-Shawver will consult with a specialist before he’s expected to have season-ending surgery. He will likely require Tommy John surgery to reconstruct the UCL, which would probably require a 12-13 month rehab for a pitcher, like Smith-Shawver, having the procedure for the first time.AdvertisementAssuming he has the surgery right away, he could target a potential return sometime around the 2026 All-Star break, or a little earlier.“It showed a tear, all the imaging,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker, who didn’t provide any more specifics. “So he’ll consult with the physicians or doctors, and they’ll decide […]
