Any NFL season is crucial for every single franchise in the league, but 2025 is shaping up as an epic one with epic consequences for the Kansas City Chiefs. Off the back of a crushing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs find themselves at a precarious point in their franchise’s history: they could continue their dynasty or fall apart at the seams. At the forefront of all of that are Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
The latter, in particular, has a ton riding on this upcoming season. At 35 years old, Kelce made the decision to return to the team for at least one more year, foregoing a possible retirement. If the Chiefs had won the Super Bowl, Kelce may have rode off into the sunset, but he couldn’t let that sour taste remain in his mouth as he closed the book on his playing career. While it’s fantastic for Kansas City that one of their team captains and leaders is back, Kelce’s play on the field last season signaled a big decline.

Patrick Mahomes says Travis Kelce’ body feels better in 2025 than he did in 2024
Fans don’t know what to expect from Kelce this season, especially since he’s turning 36 mid-season and showed his age in 2024. While a firsthand report from OTAs in May won’t tell next season’s story, Mahomes has given Chiefs fans plenty of hope with his comments on Kelce’s current status.

If it’s the last ride, you would never know. The way he’s talking about football, the way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year. He doesn’t seem like a guy that it’s his last ride, like he’s tired of the job… I know his body feels good. I think it feels better than even last year, before going into last season.
The biggest thing to take away from Mahomes’ quote is that he believes Kelce is in a better place physically than he was at this point last year. That is crucial due to Kelce getting older. Bodies in the NFL tend to wear much faster the older you get, so Kelce feeling great means we could be getting a bounceback season on the gridiron.
