As the heir to a quarterback dynasty, Arch Manning enters the 2025 season with sky-high expectations, despite limited on-field experience. Manning hasn’t even crossed the 1,000-yard mark in his college career, but the anticipation surrounding his development has never waned. If anything, the buzz has only intensified.
One of the latest voices to weigh in on Manning‘s status is veteran college football analyst Joel Klatt. During a recent appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Klatt didn’t hold back on his bold assessment of the rising star.

“Arch Manning is the second-best quarterback in college football,” Klatt declared.
He doubled down on the statement with specific praise for Manning‘s style of play. “He threatens every blade of grass on the field. He’s accurate, smart, and better throwing the ball downfield than even Quinn Ewers was,” Klatt said.

Comparing Arch Manning’s style to Clemson-era Trevor Lawrence
Klatt‘s evaluation wasn’t limited to just Manning‘s passing abilities. The FOX Sports analyst also pointed out that the young quarterback brings mobility that mirrors an NFL-caliber playmaker.
“He flashed this ability to run… That looks like Trevor,” Klatt added, referencing Trevor Lawrence‘s early days at Clemson, where the future No. 1 NFL Draft pick dazzled with both his arm and legs.
With the 2025 season fast approaching, the timing of this praise adds extra weight. Manning is now officially QB1 in Austin following Ewers‘ departure to the NFL, where he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins. That transition means Manning‘s potential is no longer theoretical-it will be tested every Saturday.
Klatt‘s pick for the top quarterback in college football, however, wasn’t Manning. That honor went to Clemson’s Cade Klubnik. A former five-star recruit and standout from Westlake High School in Texas, Klubnik enters the season as a polished prospect with a stellar resume.
He led all returning quarterbacks with an elite 87.7 PFF passing grade in 2024 and demonstrated impressive command of intermediate zone coverages.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds, Klubnik‘s only red flag among some scouts is his size, which may affect how he handles pressure and throws over taller defensive linemen.
Still, Klatt considers him the most complete quarterback heading into this season, with Manning as a very close second.
