We have a date for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the brainchild of the Duffer Brothers and global phenomenon, that premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016, and has since become a cultural juggernaut, marking nearly a decade of influence. Set in the 1980s in Hawkins, Indiana, the series blends supernatural horror with nostalgia, captivating audiences worldwide and becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched shows ever.
Its critical acclaim for storytelling, character development, and 1980s references has earned it numerous awards, including Emmys and Golden Globes, solidifying its place in television history.

The show’s impact extends far beyond the screen. It has sparked a resurgence of 1980s fashion, music, and pop culture references, influencing everything from Halloween costumes to soundtrack revivals. Stranger Things has been a cornerstone of Netflix’s original content strategy, helping the platform dominate streaming during a period of intense competition from Disney+ and HBO Max.
The fourth season, released in 2022 with a two-part structure, broke viewership records, setting the stage for the final season amidst a shifting content landscape.

End of an era: Stranger Things wraps up with three-part finale starting November
Now, the wait is over. Netflix announced tonight, in it’s TUDUM event, that the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will premiere in three volumes. Volume 1 drops on November 26, 2025, at 5 PM PT, followed by Volume 2 on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at 5 PM PT, and The Finale on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, at 5 PM PT.
This staggered release strategy aligns with Netflix’s tradition of holiday programming, aiming to maximize global viewership during peak times, a tactic also seen with other 2025 releases like Squid Game Season 2 and a Beyoncé documentary.
The announcement comes as Netflix navigates a challenging market, with Variety reporting on May 31 that the platform is doubling down on high-profile series despite financial pressures. The Duffer Brothers have hinted at episodes potentially lasting 1.5 to 2.5 hours each, promising an epic conclusion, as noted in a Hollywood Reporter interview on May 30. For fans, this final season represents the end of an era, a decade-long journey that began with a mysterious disappearance in Hawkins and will now close with a battle that could define the town’s fate forever.
