Djokovič i v klidu před novináři uznával, že momentálně není v nejlepší formě. „Prioritou je samozřejmě zvednout úroveň mého tenisu, která momentálně není tam, kde bych ji chtěl mít. Ideálně tak, aby forma vrcholila na French Open,“ uvedl pro televizi Sky Sports.
„Právě tam chci předvést svoji nejlepší hru. Na Roland Garros a pak ve Wimbledonu. Samozřejmě, teď jsme v Madridu. Přijeli jsme s dostatečným předstihem a snažíme se odmakat spoustu hodin na kurtu a v tělocvičně, abych vyladil tělo i hru a v zásadě všechny aspekty své hry a byl o pár procent lepší než v předchozích týdnech,“ dodal.
