zweite Bundesliga
Für die einen ist es die spannendste 2. Liga aller Zeiten. Für die anderen die schlechteste. Noch nie seit Einführung der Drei-Punkte-Regel 1995 war der Tabellenführer so schwach. Der 1. FC Köln führt das Aufstiegsrennen nach 31 Spielen mit nur 54 Punkten an. Ein Zähler dahintersteht der HSV, der nach dem 1:2 gegen Karlsruhe sowie drei Spielen ohne Sieg wieder im Frühjahrs-Krisenmodus ist und um die Rückkehr in die 1. Liga zittern muss.
Nur weil alle Mannschaften so schlecht sind, können bis Platz neun noch alle Vereine aufsteigen. Exemplarisch war der vergangene Spieltag: Außer Lautern (2:1 gegen Schalke) konnte kein Aufstiegskandidat gewinnen.
Im Schneckenrennen zeigt der HSV (mal wieder) die größten Nerven: 2:4 gegen Braunschweig, 2:2 auf Schalke, nun die zweite Saison-Heimpleite gegen den KSC. Samstag geht’s nach Darmstadt, der Dritte Magdeburg kann mit einem Heimsieg zuvor gegen Kellerkind Münster nach Punkten gleichziehen – und den Druck erhöhen.
Trainer Merlin Polzin (34) weiß, dass es im Saisonendspurt besonders auf die Psyche ankommt. Er sagt: „Wir müssen Bock auf die Situation haben und nicht groß darüber nachdenken, was alles nicht gelingen kann, sondern was man erreichen kann.“
Und wenn der HSV sein Saisonziel Bundesliga-Rückkehr im siebten Anlauf wieder nicht erreicht? Dann wird es einen XXL-Umbruch geben. Betroffen wäre auch der Trainer. Der HSV wollte schon vor der Beförderung von Polzin Ende Dezember unbedingt Lukas Kwasniok (43) aus Paderborn holen. Der bekam keine Freigabe, ist nach der Saison aber auf dem Markt. Kwasniok und Paderborn haben sich nach vier Jahren auf ein Ende der Zusammenarbeit geeinigt.
Kwasniok, der auf der Liste von Hoffenheim steht (siehe Seite 31), sieht seine Zukunft zwar grundsätzlich in der 1. Liga. Beim HSV könnte er aber eine Ausnahme machen, der Klub reizt ihn nach wie vor. Weil sein Vertrag beim SCP noch bis 2026 läuft, müsste der HSV aber eine Ablöse im hohen sechsstelligen Bereich zahlen.

Auch das Gesicht der Mannschaft wird sich ändern. Linksverteidiger Miro Muheim (27) will unbedingt in der 1. Liga spielen, hat eine Ausstiegsklausel, die bei rund fünf Millionen Euro liegen soll. Mittelfeldspieler Ludovit Reis (24) steht auf der Liste von Champions-League-Achtelfinalist Club Brügge. Daniel Elfadli (28) hat sich in den Blickpunkt gespielt, das Ziel des Allrounders ist die Bundesliga.
Bis zum KSC-Spiel war die Zukunft von Stürmer Davie Selke (30) noch nicht geklärt.
Fraglich wäre auch die Zukunft von Sebastian Schonlau (30) und Jonas Meffert (30), die intern zwar ein hohes Standing genießen und Verträge bis 2026 haben. Allerdings stünden der Verteidiger und der Mittelfeldspieler exemplarisch für das Aufstiegs-Versagen der vergangenen Jahre.
Ob Jean-Luc Dompé (29) trotz Vertragsverlängerung bis 2027 in der 2. Liga zu halten wäre, ist ebenfalls fraglich. Darüber hinaus dürfte auch über Sport-Vorstand Stefan Kuntz (62/Vertrag bis 2026) diskutiert werden. Der einflussreiche Aufsichtsrat erhofft sich unter ihm den Aufstieg.
Und bei Köln? Der FC kann mit einem Sieg am Samstagabend zu Hause gegen Schlusslicht Regensburg einen großen Schritt Richtung Bundesliga machen – und wegen der Schwäche der Konkurrenz seine Personalplanungen vorantreiben. Gesucht werden Verstärkungen für alle Mannschaftsteile.
Eine Nr. 2 hinter Stammtorwart Marvin Schwäbe (30) soll kommen. Dazu mindestens ein Innen-, ein Außenverteidiger, ein zentraler Mittelfeldspieler, ein Außenbahnspieler, ein Torjäger.
Die größte Baustelle ist der Angriff. Auf der Liste ganz oben: Lauterns Ragnar Ache (26). Der in Frankfurt geborene Mittelstürmer hält den FCK mit 17 Saisontreffern im Aufstiegsrennen. Er hat eine Ausstiegsklausel in seinem Vertrag bis 2026, kostet 4,5 Mio. Euro.

Für die Innenverteidigung ist Bochums Tim Oermann (21) ein Kandidat. Der wechselt nach Leverkusen und soll für eine Saison verliehen werden. Köln wird als Aufsteiger zur Option. Oermann ist schnell (über 35 km/h) und zweikampfstark, 1,89 Meter groß. Ein zweiter Zugang könnte ebenfalls aus Bochum kommen: Tom Krauß (23), den der Revier-Klub im Winter von Mainz geliehen hat, will erstklassig bleiben. Der Mittelfeldspieler ist in der Rückrunde der auffälligste Profi beim VfL. Sowohl eine Leihe als auch ein Kauf (Marktwert laut transfermarkt.de: vier Mio.) sind möglich. Krauß steht bis 2027 in Mainz unter Vertrag.
Für Einkäufe stehen rund zwölf Millionen Euro zur Verfügung, die der Klub ohne finanzielles Risiko investieren kann. Vor den Einkäufen soll es eine wichtige Vertrags-Verlängerung geben – die von Linton Maina (25). Für den Offensiv-Star ist der Aufstieg Grundvoraussetzung.
