Bei 31 Grad Außentemperatur (Strecken-Temperatur bis zu 50 Grad) rast Oscar Piastri (24) zum Sieg beim Großen Preis von Spanien. Der Australier gewinnt vor McLaren-Teamkollege Lando Norris (25) und Red Bulls Max Verstappen (27) – weil sein Team in der Hitze von Barcelona einen kühlen Kopf bewahrt.
Während der Brause-Rennstall von Weltmeister Verstappen auf eine Drei-Stopp-Strategie setzt, plant McLaren bei beiden Piloten, nur je zweimal die Reifen zu wechseln. Eine risikoreiche Strategie!
Als Verstappen in Runde 14 zu seinem ersten Stopp in die Box fährt, haben Piastri (9,3 Sekunden) und Norris (4,2 Sekunden) einen komfortablen Vorsprung.
Genug, um Verstappens Fern-Attacke (mit frischen Reifen schneller als die McLarens) abzuwehren – doch die McLaren-Verantwortlichen lassen ihre Boliden draußen. Ein Wagnis.
[–>Denn: Der Red-Bull-Star knabbert heftig am Vorsprung der „Papayas“, holt teilweise bis zu 1,5 Sekunden pro Runde auf. Zwischenzeitlich scheint es sogar so, als könne Verstappen in seinem unterlegenen RB gewinnen.
Aber McLaren bleibt cool, kann den amtierenden Weltmeister – trotz seiner frischeren Reifen – auf Abstand halten. Eine strategische Meisterleistung.
In Runde 49 ist die RB-Attacke vorbei. Verstappen kommt mit 4,1 Sekunden Rückstand auf Norris (der hat 2,8 Sekunden Rückstand auf den Führenden Piastri) erneut in die Box. Doch dieses Mal wechselt auch McLaren die Gummis. Das britische Traditions-Team bleibt locker mit beiden Boliden vor Verstappen.
Dann kommt es richtig dicke für den RB-Star: Weil Mercedes-Pilot Kimi Antonelli (18) mit Motroschaden crasht, kommt in Runde 55 das Safety Car. Die komplette Spitzengruppe kommt wieder zum Reifenwechsel. Während McLaren – wegen der Zwei-Stopp-Strategie – noch frische Soft-Reifen (die schnellste Variante) hat, muss Verstappen auf die harte Mischung setzen.

Die Quittung dafür kriegt der Holländer beim Neustart. Während Piastri und Norris mit dem Doppelsieg davonziehen, verliert Verstappen sogar noch das Podium.
Ferrari-Fahrer Leclerc ist ebenfalls auf den Soft-Gummis unterwegs und nutzt einen Patzer des RB-Stars. Noch schlimmer: Auch Mercedes-Star George Russell (27) will vorbeiziehen, kollidiert mit dem Holländer. Verstappen bleibt vorne, Red Bull weist ihn an, den Briten vorbeizulassen, um eine Strafe zu vermeiden. Das tut er – aber erst, nachdem er den Silberpfeil erneut rammt. Wild!
BILD-Experte fragt DFB-Chef: „Was ist scheinheiliger?“
Sehen auch die Renn-Schiedsrichter so: Noch bevor der amtierende Weltmeister im Ziel ankommt, kriegt er eine 10-Sekunden-Strafe aufgebrummt. Endergebnis: Zehnter! Ein ganz bitterer Rückschlag im Kampf um die WM. Da hat Verstappen nun 49 (!) Punkte Rückstand auf Piastri.
Ganz anders ist die Laune bei Nico Hülkenberg (37). Der Deutsche fährt ein furioses Rennen. Beim Start rast er von Platz 16 auf Rang zehn. Wow. Im Laufe des Rennens bleibt er konstant in den Punkten, das Upgrade seines Sauber-Teams scheint zu funktionieren. Durch das Safety Car ist er plötzlich Sechster, die Verstappen-Strafe bringt ihm am Ende Platz fünf ein. Top!
