While Arch Manning is in the spotlight with his plays and takes on the role of starting quarterback at the University of Texas, a young player stole the show.
The son of Chargers legend Phillip Rivers, Gunner Rivers did not go unnoticed during his first visit to Austin, to the Texas Longhorns Elite Camp as part of the 2027 cycle.
Rivers, a 6-foot-2, 174-pound prospect who is already making waves at St. Michael’s Catholic in Alabama, impressed the coaches and was quick to express his gratitude for the experience of working with coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee.
Using his official Instagram profile, On3 posted a photo of the young man and wrote: “2027 4-star QB Gunner Rivers is at Texas today, @InsideTexas reports.”
Even with two years left before graduating from high school, according to the 2027 On3 Industry Ranking, the young quarterback is ranked as the 57th prospect and 7th QB in the US.
In addition, in his sophomore year, he threw for nearly 4,000 yards (3,947), completed 63% of his passes, 36 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
The Longhorn Nation in trouble
With Manning as a strong quarterback figure, Texas’ deep QB roster, and Rivers’ performance, there is arguably a chance that he could become Texas’ next QB if they acquire him.
His arm, his composure, his accuracy, and his lineage all support Gunner’s game, and he has even been compared to Arch, so the position could be split between the two if that possibility arises. What we are sure of is the level of the position, whoever occupies it.
