Anderson, representing Thurston High School, was well ahead in the race, with victory in her hands, when she stumbled over the last hurdle.

Her triumph seemed in doubt at that moment, but the athlete drew on her gymnastics background to execute two somersaults thanks to the inertia of the fall, which allowed her to cross the finish line first.
