Darlan em ação contra Cuba pela VNL de 2024 (Maurício Val/CBV)
Na tarde desta quinta-feira (12), a seleção brasileira de vôlei masculino entra em quadra diante de Cuba, pela segunda rodada da primeira fase da Liga das Nações de Vôlei (VNL) 2025. A bola rola às 17h30 (de Brasília), no Maracanãzinho, no Rio de Janeiro. A estreia do Brasil acontece hoje (11), diante do Irã, também às 17h30, no mesmo local.
Nesta primeira fase, o Brasil irá disputar 12 partidas, em três sedes diferentes. Os primeiros quatro jogos são no Brasil, depois realiza mais quatro nos Estados Unidos e fecha a competição tendo os últimos duelos no Japão. Então, as oito melhores seleções avançam ao mata-mata, onde é disputado quartas de final, semifinal e final.

Por ser uma competição nova, criada em 2018, na VNL as duas equipes se enfrentaram apenas duas vezes, com duas vitórias de Cuba, em 2023 e 2024, por 3 x 2 e 3 x 1, respectivamente. Porém, este encontro já aconteceu 19 vezes nos últimos 20 anos, seja no Pan-Americano, Pré-Olímpico, Mundial, Liga Mundial e Copa dos Campeões.
Neste período, o Brasil tem vantagem, com 12 vitórias contra sete dos cubanos. Inclusive, este duelo foi a final do Mundial de 2010, com a nossa seleção vencendo por 3 sets a 0. Neste torneio, os dois times estavam no mesmo grupo na primeira fase, com Cuba vencendo o confronto. Porém, os dois avançaram e se cruzaram novamente na decisão.
