PWHL Vancouver, one of the league’s two new teams for the 2025-26 season, used the expansion draft and signing window to build a roster led by two of the sport’s top defenders and a superstar forward.
On Monday, they added to the haul, according to sources briefed on the situation, by signing Hannah Miller and Tereza Vanisová on the first day of league-wide free agency and continuing to build a lineup that should be championship-caliber the moment it takes the ice.

Miller, from North Vancouver, was the most productive free agent on the market, and was ranked No. 1 by The Athletic heading into the signing window. She’s a versatile forward with the ability to scale the lineup, play center or wing. She was highly effective on Toronto’s top power-play unit last season, but also adds two-way value at five-on-five. Her plus-14 rating was second league-wide to Montreal captain Marie-Philip Poulin.
Miller easily could slot in as Vancouver’s No. 2 center or as a top-six winger, reuniting on a line with Sarah Nurse, her former Toronto Sceptres teammate who signed with Vancouver during the pre-draft signing window.
Vancouver also signed the No. 2 free agent off The Athletic’s free agent board in Vanisová, who is coming off her best season in the PWHL. The Czech national led the Ottawa Charge in scoring last season with 22 points, and only Marie-Philip Poulin scored more goals than Vanisová’s 15 league-wide. She’s an elite skater and a talented offensive winger who will add speed and skill to the top of Vancouver’s lineup.
The two forwards join a Vancouver roster that already includes top talents such as Nurse and defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson. In the expansion draft last week, general manager Cara Gardner Morey continued to build the team from the back end out with two puck-moving defenders — led by Ashton Bell — and solid two-way forwards, such as Gabby Rosenthal and Denisa Křížová.
After the draft, Gardner Morey said she planned to add a few more top-six forwards via free agency, and she undoubtedly did that with Miller and Vanisová. And, according to league sources, she might not be done yet.
