Um dos favoritos ao título da Copa do Mundo de Clubes, os Citizens farão sua estreia na competição nesta quarta (18) diante dos marroquinos
O Manchester City fará a sua primeira partida pelo Mundial de Clubes da Fifa nesta quarta-feira (18). O adversário é o Wydad Casablanca, do Marrocos, no confronto válido pelo Grupo G que também conta com Juventus e Al Ain. A bola vai rolar no Lincoln Financial Field, na Filadélfia, a partir das 13h (horário de Brasília). Globo, SporTV, Cazé TV e DAZN anunciam a transmissão ao vivo.
Apontado como um dos postulantes ao título da Copa do Mundo de Clubes, os Citizens comandados por Pep Guardiola foram os que mais investiram para a competição. O técnico espanhol terá à disposição a partir do torneio nos Estados Unidos vários reforços, contratados depois da fraca temporada da equipe britânica.
Entre eles, estão o meia-atacante francês Rayan Cherki, o lateral argelino Ait-Nouri, o meia holandês Reijnders e o goleiro inglês Bettinelli. Em contrapartida, Kevin De Bruyne e Grealish não foram inscritos pelo Manchester City, com o meio-campista belga se transferindo para o Napoli na próxima temporada.
Campeão mundial pelo Manchester City em 2023, Guardiola amargou sua pior temporada no comando da equipe, perdendo a hegemonia na Premier League ao terminar apenas em terceiro lugar. Além disso, foi eliminado precocemente da Uefa Champions League, ao cair para o Real Madrid de Ancelotti ainda na fase de playoffs.
Adversário do Manchester City também viveu ano complicado
O adversário do City é o Wydad Casablanca, que disputará o Mundial de Clubes por ter vencido a Liga dos Campeões da África em 2022. Além disso, será a primeira vez que ambos se enfrentarão. O Wydad é o maior campeão marroquino com 22 títulos, além de possuir três taças continentais. Entretanto, também vem de uma temporada ruim, ficando apenas na terceira colocação no campeonato nacional, além de ter caído nas oitavas da Taça do Marrocos.
O Wydad vai para o seu terceiro Mundial, depois de terminar em sexto em 2017 e cair nas quartas de final em 2022. O time marroquino tem três brasileiros no elenco: Guilherme Ferreira, Pedrinho e Arthur. Porém, nenhum deles deverá iniciar a partida. Um dos reforços da equipe comandada por Mohamed Amine Benhachem, técnico efetivado depois de se destacar como interino, é o recém-contratado atacante Nordin Amrabat, irmão mais velho do volante que se destacou pela seleção do Marrocos na Copa do Mundo de 2022.
