Verdão pode contemplar mudanças no time para o segundo compromisso, agendado para esta quinta-feira (19), em Nova Jersey
Embora esteja fora da zona classificatória do Grupo A na Copa do Mundo de Clubes, o Palmeiras tem bom cenário no pleito para buscar uma vaga no mata-mata da competição. Restando dois duelos para fechar a primeira fase, o alviverde encara Al Ahly e Inter Miami só dependendo das próprias forças. Com dois triunfos, os comandados de Abel Ferreira liquidam o passaporte, mas também podem alcançar o objetivo com outros cenários.
No momento, o Verdão é o terceiro colocado da chave por conta dos critérios de desempate. O cartão amarelo aplicado para Abel Ferreira deixou o time com três infrações, contra duas do Porto, que aparece em segundo. Se vencer o Al Ahly na próxima quinta (19), o representante brasileiro dá um passo importantíssimo rumo à classificação. O cenário pode ficar ainda melhor se, combinado com este triunfo, Porto e Inter Miami fiquem em um empate no duelo que realizam no mesmo dia.
Na última rodada, o Verdão encara o time de Lionel Messi em confronto que pode ser para definição de liderança da chave ou em caráter ‘eliminatório’, em um contexto de disputa direta pela vaga à próxima fase da Copa do Mundo de Clubes.

Para o jogo contra o Al Ahly, o Verdão tem todo o grupo à disposição do técnico Abel Ferreira, que pode promover alterações, principalmente no comando ofensivo. Depois de entrarem bem contra o Porto, Paulinho e Flaco López possuem boas chances de serem escalados como titulares. Depois de um trabalho mais leve, com regenerativo para o grupo que estreou contra o Porto, o time alviverde realiza treinamentos mais intensos nesta terça, na Carolina do Norte.
Mauricio é cotado para deixar a equipe, tendo Facundo Torres e Paulinho como ‘sombras’, enquanto na linha mais adiante, Vitor Roque vê Flaco López forte no páreo. Weverton; Giay, Gustavo Gómez, Murilo e Piquerez; Aníbal Moreno, Richard Ríos e Felipe Anderson; Estêvão, Mauricio (Facundo Torres ou Paulinho) e Vitor Roque (Flaco López).
O embate da próxima quinta no MetLife Stadium será o terceiro entre Palmeiras e o time egípcio, e o ‘tira-teima’ pode desempatar o confronto. Em 2021, os dois times mediram forças na disputa do terceiro lugar do Mundial (edição de 2020), e o Verdão acabou sucumbindo. Depois do empate sem gols no tempo regulamentar, o Al Ahly venceu por 3 a 2 na marca da cal.
No ano seguinte, desta feita pelo Mundial de 2021, o Palmeiras não tomou conhecimento do adversário e se ‘vingou’, triunfando pelo placar de 2 a 0, com gols de Raphael Veiga e Dudu. Daquele elenco, apenas oito jogadores permanecem no atual elenco de Abel Ferreira: Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Gómez, Piquerez, Veiga, Lomba, Mayke, Murilo.
