Se o torcedor do Flamengo ainda teve presença tímida no estádio na estreia do Mundial de Clubes, a equipe rubro-negra debutou no ambiente novo com algumas particularidades no jogo contra o Esperánce-TUN. Diante de 25 mil pessoas, o time entrou de forma individual, a la NBA, e não soube muito bem como se comportar no campo.
— Você se sente um pouco mais protagonista, mas foi realmente diferente — comentou Arrascaeta, eleito o melhor em campo.
A entrada com direito a show de luzes e música lembrou jogos de Copa do Mundo de seleções. Torneio inaugural da Fifa nesse formato, também chamou atenção a forma de tratamento aos clubes.
O locutor do jogo apelidou o time carioca usando as suas iniciais, em inglês. A cada dado ou substituição anunciados, o clube da Gávea era chamado de “C.R Flamengo”, formalmente. Nada de Mengão ou algo parecido com o que se ouve no Maracanã.
Os relatos dos atletas em geral foram de uma boa experiência, que gerou ansiedade na estreia.
— Como jogador, a gente às vezes se acostuma com isso, mas não pode perder, é o que nos motiva a estar em campo, nesse tipo de jogo, nesse tipo de competição. Fico muito feliz, é um estádio que acompanho por ver a NFL. Um sonho disputar uma Copa do Mundo em estádios que costumo acompanhar — afirmou Léo Ortiz.
Segundo Bruno Henrique, o time do Flamengo sentiu o apoio da torcida, embora o estádio não estivesse lotado:
— O estádio é muito maior do que os estádios no Brasil. Foi bonito de se ver as torcidas vibrando. A gente espera o estádio cheio. Alguns jogos não vai acontecer isso. O torcedor veio dos dois lados, apoiou o tempo todo, ficamos felizes.
Para o técnico Filipe Luís, a presença do público até surpreendeu:
— Não esperava o estádio tão cheio hoje, foi meio a meio. É um privilégio jogar na Copa do Mundo de Clubes da Fifa. Muito feliz em ganhar e em viver essa grande experiência.
