Panthers se povedlo po roce opět získat trofej, což v NHL naposledy zvládli jejich sousedé z Tampy Bay v roce 2021. Nejužitečnějším hráčem play off byl vyhlášen autor 15 branek ve vyřazovací části Sam Bennett, který převzal Conn Smythe Trophy. A kapitánovi Oilers Connoru McDavidovi a jeho spoluhráčům znovu zbyly jen oči pro pláč.
„Vyhrát Stanley Cup dvakrát v řadě je takřka nemožné,“ gratuloval vítězům ze ‚Slunečního státu‘ komisionář NHL Gary Bettman. Radují se i centr čtvrté floridské lajny Tomáš Nosek a náhradní gólman Vítek Vaněček. Kapitán vítězů Aleksander Barkov pak vjel s trofejí mezi křepčící hrozen spoluhráčů.
„V sérii jsme ještě nepředvedli náš nejlepší výkon, teď je ideální chvíle, abychom se s ním vytasili,“ řekl před utkáním edmontonský útočník Leon Draisaitl. Ale zůstalo jen u zbožného přání. Počáteční aktivita hostů nebyla odměněna, a už v páté minutě tak zahřmělo před brankou Oilers.
Do kostrbaté rozehrávky obranné dvojice Evan Bouchard, Mattias Ekholm vletěl Reinhart a střelou k tyči nedal šanci Stuartu Skinnerovi, jenž dostal mezi tyčemi Edmontonu přednost před Calvinem Pickardem.
Ani nejproduktivnější hráči vyřazovací části McDavid s Draisaitlem v noci na středu nedokázali najít recept na vyšachování domácí obrany, za kterou spolehlivě nacházel puky gólman Sergej Bobrovskij. 47 sekund před úvodní sirénou pak přišel moment, který edmontonské myšlenky na zvrat v sérii poslal do oblasti divoké teorie. Eetu Luostarinen na sebe natáhl dva hráče a předložil puk Matthew Tkachukovi, který pálil nahoru – 2:0!
Jen s velmi mírnou nadsázkou se dá říct, že Florida Stanley Cup získala v úvodních třetinách, celkově v nich Panthers měli ve finále skóre 13:4, v posledních čtyřech zápasech dokonce 9:0.
„Nevěřím, že první gól rozhoduje,“ tvrdil sice floridský kouč Paul Maurice, ale jeho svěřenci se tentokrát nenechali zaskočit jako v zápase číslo 4, kdy ztratili tříbrankový náskok. Florida hrála přísně, ale v rámci pravidel a nedala Edmontonu ani možnost hrát přesilovky. Záběry na hostující střídačku byly výmluvné. Schlíplý trenér Kris Knoblauch, schlíplí hráči…
Ještě hůř se jim dýchalo, když Barkov předvedl perfektní práci v útočné třetině a puk, který Skinner jen vyrazil, poslal naprosto cíleně na Reinhartovu šikovně nastavenou brusli, od níž se kotouč odrazil do sítě.
V aktuálním rozpoložení už Oilers nenašli energii, aby se zvedli. Šance před Bobrovským se rodily ztuha, naopak floridské výpady hrozily dalšími trefami. Fanoušci v Sunrise postupně propadali euforii. A Edmonton se odhodlal k zoufalému kroku, když Skinnera odvolal z branky už 7 minut před koncem. Naděje ale zhasla po 26 sekundách, kdy do prázdné branky dovršil hattrick Reinhart, který pak při pokračující power play kanadského mužstva přidal ještě jeden gól…
Až pak sebral Bobrovskému čisté konto dorážkou jeho krajan v edmontonských službách Vasilij Podkolzin. Ale to byl jen malý flíček na jinak precizním výkonu staronových šampionů.
Resumé sezony 2024-25 je tak stejné jako před rokem: Nejlepším týmem NHL jsou opět Florida Panthers. A naprosto zaslouženě.
