Als Jonathan Burkardt (24) am 1. Januar 2024 seinen damals auslaufenden Vertrag vorzeitig bis 2027 verlängerte, stand Mainz mit zehn Punkten auf Relegations-Platz 16. Die Saison war bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt eine Katastrophe. Der Stürmer wollte sich absichern, falls der Verein die Klasse nicht halten könnte. Deswegen vereinbarten der Klub und der gebürtige Darmstädter im Rahmen der Vertragsgespräche, dass Burkardt den Verein verlassen darf, sobald jemand rund 20 Mio. Euro Ablöse bietet.
17 Monate später steht Burkardt vor einem Wechsel nach Frankfurt. Der Stürmer und Eintracht sind sich einig. Allerdings gibt es trotz der Vereinbarung aus dem Januar 2024 einen Poker um die Ablöse.
Denn unmittelbar nach seiner Vertragsverlängerung spielte Burkardt eine sensationelle Rückrunde, schoss Mainz mit acht Toren zum Klassenerhalt (in der Hinrunde hatte er kein Tor erzielt). Und auch in der abgelaufenen Saison lieferte er überragend ab – 18 Liga-Treffer.
[–>Mainz-Boss Christian Heidel (62) realisierte, dass sich Burkardt schneller entwickelte als erwartet und er deswegen die rund 20 Mio. Euro zu niedrig angesetzt hatte. Heidel ging also auf Burkardt zu und machte ein Angebot: Alles, was in Zukunft über die rund 20 Mio. Euro erzielt werden kann, wird gleichermaßen zwischen Verein, dem Spieler und dessen Berater aufgeteilt. Die Beteiligten stimmten der Abmachung zu.
Interessant ist, dass Eintracht von der ursprünglichen Vereinbarung – Burkardt für rund 20 Mio. Euro gehen zu lassen – zumindest offiziell nichts weiß. Auch die Spielerseite hat es Frankfurt bislang nicht kommuniziert. Sie hält sich auch an die neue Absprache mit Heidel. Deswegen wird Eintracht-Manager Markus Krösche (44) nun ein Angebot machen, was seiner Meinung nach dem Marktpreis entspricht. Nach SPORT BILD-Infos ist Frankfurt bereit, maximal rund 25 Mio. Euro zu zahlen. Transfermarkt.de gibt Burkardts Marktwert mit 35 Mio. Euro an.
Voraussichtlich wird sich der Deal am Ende um die genannten 25 Mio. Euro einpendeln. Das hat mehrere Gründe.

► Burkardt will unbedingt zur Eintracht. Schon im Winter 2024 stand er mit Frankfurt bezüglich eines Wechsels im Austausch. Aus großer Dankbarkeit Mainz gegenüber (seit 2014 im Verein) wollte er den Klub aber nicht ablösefrei verlassen, verlängerte stattdessen. Eintracht holte Hugo Ekitiké (22). Nun sieht Burkardt Frankfurt als logischen nächsten Schritt. Er kann dort Champions League spielen und wird so auch für Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann (37) interessanter. Außerdem sind er und sein Vater Eintracht-Fans.
► Es wird kein Wettbieten mit anderen Klubs geben. Denn Heidel weiß, dass die Burkardt-Seite ihm schon zweimal einen Gefallen getan hat: Erstens, weil Burkardt im Winter 2024 überhaupt verlängert hat und kurz danach nicht ablösefrei gegangen ist. Zweitens, weil Burkardt darauf eingegangen ist, die ursprüngliche Abmachung aufzuweichen und sich daran auch jetzt hält. Dazu planen ehemalige Interessenten, wie zum Beispiel Leverkusen, mittlerweile mit anderen Spielern.
► Krösche könnte den Deal rein theoretisch in die Länge ziehen. Die Spielerseite würde womöglich nervös werden und am Ende doch auf die ursprüngliche Vereinbarung bestehen. Es sei denn, es grätscht noch ein anderer Verein dazwischen. Das ist jedoch unwahrscheinlich. Krösche will, dass der Deal schnellstmöglich über die Bühne geht, damit Trainer Dino Toppmöller (44) planen kann. Deswegen wird er Mainz wohl auch bei der Ablöse entgegenkommen. Außerdem will er sein gutes Verhältnis zu Mainz nicht aufs Spiel setzen. Gleichzeitig möchte Heidel Burkardt keine Steine in den Weg legen.
Ist der Deal fix, bekommt Burkardt einen Vertrag bis 2030 und ein Grundgehalt von rund 2,5 Mio. Euro. Mit Bonuszahlungen kann sich diese Summe deutlich erhöhen.

Richard Sherman charged with DUI: Ex-Seahawks star, Super Bowl champion hit with second such charge since 2021
Getty Images Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman has been charged with driving under the influence following his arrest in King County back in 2024, according to the Seattle Times. Blood-test results from the State Patrol crime lab showed Sherman had a blood-alcohol level of approximately 0.11 the night of his arrest, which is above the legal limit of 0.08. Sherman was arrested following a traffic stop around 2 a.m. on Feb. 24, 2024. A Washington State Patrol officer noted Sherman's car was "bouncing back and forth within the lane it was traveling in." The five-time All-Pro cornerback refused a Breathalyzer, but did agree to some voluntary tests. Sherman showed signs of impairment during those voluntary tests, and he was arrested.
