Nesta quarta-feira (19), às 22h, Botafogo e PSG se enfrentam pela segunda rodada do Mundial de Clubes. Assim, esse confronto coloca frente a frente dois dirigentes que têm protagonizado episódios de rivalidade na França. John Textor, dono do Fogão, e Nasser Al-Khelaifi, do Paris Saint-Germain, alimentam uma relação pouco amistosa desde que o americano se tornou acionista majoritário do Lyon.
John Textor questiona direitos de transmissão da Ligue 1
A relação entre John Textor e Nasser Al-Khelaifi está estremecida depois que o americano discordou de como os direitos de imagem do Campeonato Francês são tratados. O catari, dono do PSG, também é proprietário da BeIN, emissora que transmite a Ligue 1. Então, tudo começou depois que a venda ocorreu por um valor abaixo do aceitável em 2024, e o Lyon não concordou, pedindo uma revisão sempre que pode.
Na época, John Textor pediu para falar diretamente com Al-Khelaifi sobre os direitos de imagem, mas recebeu uma negativa ríspida. “Você deveria saber que seu cara não sabe nada de direitos de TV, tenha um bom dia”, disse o catari. Assim, o dono do Botafogo respondeu: “Você não me ligou para pedir minha opinião, mas sim para me dizer o que eu deveria pensar”.
O embate causou atrito nos bastidores, e em novembro John Textor postou uma imagem no seu Instagram para cutucar Al-Khelaifi. Junto com uma foto dele segurando a taça da Libertadores, vencida pelo Botafogo, o americano colocou um print de WhatsApp. Na conversa, o interlocutor disse: “você não entende nada de futebol e conversar com você é uma perda de tempo, você vai perder onde estiver”. Apesar de Textor não confirmar que foi o catari que falou isso, a imprensa francesa crava a autoria.
Reunião vazada, ápice do conflito
Em fevereiro de 2025, o caso mais emblemático entre os dois cartolas. Em uma reunião virtual com a presença de diversos presidentes de clubes franceses, John Textor e Al-Khelaifi tiveram uma discussão em público. O jornal L’Équipe teve acesso a um trecho em que o americano dizendo que todos os presentes “deveriam ter direito de opinar”, e que o catari era “tirano”. A resposta foi implacável: “John, cala a boca, você não entende nada, você é um caubói que veio não sei de onde e vem falar conosco”.
Em resposta bem humorada, no clássico entre Lyon e PSG, John Textor apareceu com um chapéu de caubói bem característico. Além disso, recusou propostas do Paris Saint-Germain pelo principal jogador do Lyonnais, Malick Fofana. “Não quero vender um jogador desta qualidade a Nasser, é óbvio que a nossa relação já não é a mesma”, afirmou o americano.
Rivalidade entre os dirigentes em PSG x Botafogo
No mês passado, Al-Khelaifi buscou o caminho da trégua ao convidar John Textor para assistir ao jogo do PSG contra o Arsenal na semifinal da Champions League. Assim, os ânimos para PSG x Botafogo estão mais amenos. Mas se o time brasileiro conseguir vencer o Paris, podemos ver mais uma provocação do emblemático dirigente do time brasileiro.
