Ein drohendes Gewitter über dem MetLife-Stadium in East Rutherford vor den Toren New Yorks hat beim Klub-WM-Spiel zwischen Brasilien-Klub Palmeiras und Al Ahly aus Ägypten für eine Unterbrechung gesorgt.
Beim Stand von 2:0 für Palmeiras ist nach 62 Minuten erstmal Pause. Auf den Stadion-Monitoren heißt es: „Eine Bitte um Ihre Aufmerksamkeit. Zu Ihrer Sicherheit bitten wir alle, den Sitzbereich zu verlassen und im Stadion Schutz zu suchen, da in der Gegend Unwetter herrscht.“
Heißt: Alle Zuschauer müssen ihre Plätze verlassen!

Die Spieler können die Unterbrechung zunächst überhaupt nicht verstehen, diskutieren intensiv mit Schiri Anthony Taylor.
Das Gewitter ist zwar noch einige Minuten vom Stadion weg, aus Sicherheitsgründen wurde Taylor offenbar angewiesen, schon jetzt das Spiel zu unterbrechen. So können sich noch alle Fans rechtzeitig in Sicherheit bringen. Das MetLife-Stadium hat kein Dach.
Bereits in der Nacht auf Donnerstag musste die Partie zwischen Pachuca und RB Salzburg in Cincinnati wegen eines Unwetters unterbrochen werden. Dort ging es erst nach 97 Minuten weiter.
Dieses Mal rechnet der übertragende Sender DAZN mit einer kürzeren Unterbrechung. Gegen 20.10 Uhr deutscher Zeit könnten die Spieler wieder zum Aufwärmen herauskommen.
