O Botafogo escreveu mais um capítulo histórico ao vencer o Paris Saint-Germain, na segunda rodada do Mundial de Clubes da Fifa, na última quinta-feira. Com o triunfo por 1 a 0, o alvinegro se tornou apenas o oitavo time a derrotar o clube francês na temporada 2024/25 — os comandados de Luis Enrique entraram em campo 60 vezes.
Mais do que vencer, o Botafogo alcançou outra façanha contra os franceses: foi o quinto time em toda a temporada a conseguir não sofrer gols diante do ataque estrelado da equipe parisiense, que balançaram as redes em 156 oportunidades em 2024/25. O alvinegro se juntou a Liverpool, Bayern de Munique, Arsenal e Auxerre.
Ao longo da temporada, o PSG se sagrou campeão da Ligue 1, Champions League e Copa da França, mas acabou sendo derrotado sete vezes. Atlético de Madrid, Aston Villa, Nice e Strasbourg, além de Liverpool, Bayern de Munique e Arsenal, foram as equipes que conseguiram superar o time francês antes do Botafogo.
A vitória do time carioca por 1 a 0 veio com muita eficiência e sacrifício para defender do Botafogo, que teve somente 25% da posse de bola, mas finalizou mais no gol. Nas estatísticas oficiais da Fifa, os 25% do alvinegro são contrabalanceados pelos 70% do PSG. A entidade ainda aponta 5% dos minutos de posse de bola em disputa.
O resultado histórico Botafogo encerrou também um jejum de 13 anos sem vitória de um clube brasileiro ou sul-americano em competições oficiais. A última havia sido do Corinthians, no triunfo por 1 a 0 sobre o Chelsea no Mundial de Clubes de 2012.
