Geremi Njitap, excentrocampista del Chelsea y presidente del sindicato de futbolistas camerunés (Synafoc), ha sido suspendido durante cinco años de toda actividad futbolística por la Federación Camerunesa de Fútbol (Fecafoot) tras protagonizar un conflicto con Samuel Eto’o. La sanción también incluye una multa de diez millones de francos CFA (unos 13.000 euros), según informó Express este miércoles.
El origen del conflicto se remonta a la Copa África de Naciones de 2023, celebrada en Costa de Marfil. Durante un partido entre Camerún y Gambia, Geremi se vio envuelto en un enfrentamiento con un miembro del personal de Eto’o, presidente de Fecafoot, que acabó con ambos siendo separados por seguridad. Según las informaciones publicadas en Camerún, Geremi fue expulsado por la fuerza del vestuario bajo órdenes de la propia federación.
La Comisión de Ética de Fecafoot dictaminó que el exjugador violó el código de conducta: “Declaramos a Geremi Sorel Njitap, presidente del Synafoc, culpable de haber vulnerado las normas de comportamiento de nuestro código ético. Le sancionamos con cinco años de inhabilitación para cualquier actividad vinculada al fútbol y una multa de diez millones de francos CFA”, recogió el citado medio.
El exinternacional, de 46 años y campeón de la Premier League con el Chelsea en 2005 y 2006, ya ha anunciado que apelará la decisión y podría llevar el caso hasta el Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo (TAS). Por su parte, su asistente, Daniel Blaise Ngos, también fue sancionado con dos años de suspensión y una multa de 6.500 libras.
Pese a todo, Express señala que Geremi y Eto’o habrían resuelto sus diferencias en privado, aunque esta sanción reaviva las críticas sobre la gestión del exdelantero del Barça y del Inter al frente de la federación.
